Area 6 info
« on: August 07, 2019, 02:58:59 PM »
We just bought property in Sequim, and a boat will be on the menu as soon as the shop is built. Problay something like a 20ft Intruder, Sea Runner or NR Seahawk. Just looking for the low down on what opportunities exist out there. I'm a seasoned freshwater guy, but the salt is all new.

I'd get a bigger boat so you can head out to the ocean too.  Not too far to Neah and Lapush from there.  That way you can access all the ocean fisheries like halibut and bottom fish in addition to salmon.  Lots of good salmon fishing to be had in the straits and ocean.

You're also pretty close to the Forks area rivers, so you better get a drift boat and raft too.

I used to fish MA6 out of an old 21' heavy fiberglass boat and did well.  Ideally, you will make a few friends and go out in their boats before you write a huge check for your boat.  Over there, it will be much harder to find used boats to buy or sell compared with Puget Sound.

If it were me, I would be looking into 22-24' aluminum with a nice comfortable cabin with diesel heat.  That would get you just about anywhere under most conditions as well as being able to adventure up into MA7 which is incredible in the summer.

I could think of worse choices for sure.

There are probably at least 5-6 makers that build quality boats for this area in that size and configuration, it’s a preference in how you like it set up and how big your bank account is.

Check them out in person and spend time running around and fishing so you know what you want and need.  Lots of options.

You could always visit the Everett launch on a Saturday in September and almost be guaranteed to see every option out there and have a quick chat with the owner.
