I went out this morning and will be back this afternoon; wash, rinse, repeat for the next three days. Starting tomorrow I may stay out all day long (if its rainy). My husband already filled his tag, so he's with me for the company :). Saw absolutely nothing this morning and heard no gunshots (GMU 627). I took work off for this.
I couldn’t get today off but went and pulled my camera out of the woods in the dark. My cam is right on the 633/627 boundary. It had been out since Halloween. There was a serious lull in activity from about November 8th until the 11th. The majority of my pictures are between 7:00 and 11:00 AM. Had a forky come in about 10 min after 3 does at 8:45 this morning. Good luck! I’ll be out there in the morning.

Interestingly enough the first deer I ever shot was a forky hanging near some elk. Was the last day of the regular season 1995. It fell on a Tuesday and my dad let me skip school to hunt. Was laying in some grass in the middle of the day watching a herd of elk and when I stood up to leave, forky was standing 20 paces behind me. The 30-30 fired straight and true, despite my complete shock. Your pic stirred that memory.

Of course you took work off for this. Would you rather be working now??

Keep at it, the rain will help.

Report from 510
No shots on the hill I hunt, 5 trucks plus mine at the gate.
Three does spotted today. They don’t seem to be moving around much. The weather was beautiful so it sucked for hunting.
Going to try 505 tomorrow
I hope this weather change helps tomorrow.

Headed out! Hopefully this rain keeps some hunters in and brings the deer out!

Hit the woods this morning. Spotted 2 does in a cut I was sitting on at dawn, they went and bedded next to the woods. I went down to them and got a little to close. They blew a little and trotted a little ways away. I then hit the timber and walked parallel to them as they were out in the cut. They are oblivious to my new location and the wind is perfect. I'm sitting there behind a tree about 80 yards from em and then they start moving up the cut. I'm scoping them and then all out of nowhere there is a fork buck trotting right on their tails. I almost squeezed in a neck shot but the timber blocked my view. My heart was racing and I sprinted to get a better view.  Sadly the deer never did stay still long enough for me to get a clear shot.

Looking back I probably could have shot him in the butt with my 7mm just to slow him down and then finish him off... There is a good reason you're not allowed to talk to yourself in the past, else this morning's me would be strangled.

You never realize how much you want a blacktail buck until he just barely escapes your grasp!!  >:(

Nice post.  Got a good laugh.

Two doe at 0800 crossing the cut, looked to be going nowhere purposeful  Just walking.  Lots of fog till 1000.  Saw zip the rest of the day.  Changed cuts -  didn't help.  No squirrels chattering at intruders.  Nothing. Very quiet.  A doe with a fawn came out at last light to make me feel better.  I'm not sure that I heard any shots by hunters all day.  That must mean sumthin.

Gotta go!
