Kapowsin/Eatonville deer season this year, how was it for you?
« on: November 22, 2020, 03:28:01 PM »
I didnt see the "annual" Kapowsin thread this year and figured I would start one, as I know there are a decent amount of folks on here that hunt it.  I will admit the place is a love/hate relationship for me, its close to home so I spend a fair amount of time there hiking, shed hunting and some deer hunting as well, but it seems to continue to get tougher for deer every year, and if I didnt buy it I would likely branch to other areas and probably be more succesful on larger bucks.  Knowing I would be unable to hunt most of the late season I lowered my standards a bit and shot a 2 point the last week of general season, with no regrets.  Went up and pulled some cards today and was kind of disappointed in the amount of rut activity and bucks I had.  Four cameras in decent areas Ive got history with and only 4 different bucks in the last month, one 3 point and the rest were nice 2 points, all in the first two weeks of November and all night pics, not a single buck during the day.  The normal abundance of elk yotes and cats on camera.  Definitely a weird year up there and looking back Im glad i took the one chance I had.  Curious what other folks take on the season was?

I think the predators aren’t hungry, the deer in my walk in unit are harder to find every year. Lots of elk, lots of yotes, bobcat and cougar. As I have said before, if it wasn’t for the elk drawing, I wouldn’t buy the pass.  It’s half the cost of an out of state tag. I’d give it a 3 out of 10 for deer hunting.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Never seen so many coyotes, on the hoof and on my cameras, than I did this year.

I have the Eatonville and Vail pass. Buy the Eatonville pass for the elk draw and close to home hunts. My brother saw a couple decent deer and shot a small forky. Saw pics of one decent dead buck. We saw an average 2 at the end of general season but couldn't get my son on him. Not many good deer sightings in there. We killed our deer in Vail. Went in Eatonville side tonight to try and help my SIL find a buck. Saw 5 deer total 2 bucks but my brother was to far away to get to me. I should have been looking closer to where they were. If it wasn't for the elk draw and the gate being 15 min from home I wouldn't buy it.

Rides from loggers are like gifts sent from above. I used to hunt the Eatonville side when it was walking only. It was 5 miles to where I would hunt and the logging trucks would cut a lot of that on the way in most times. Good on ya for giving the ride.

My deer season was the same as it always is.  I hunt pretty hard, riding my bike behind locked gates 90% of the time and I hunt daylight to dark, unless I have to run out and pick my son up after school to hunt.  I take vacation the last week of general and the 4 day late season, and I am happy if I have one chance a year to tag out.  I had more than one chance this year and I didn't tag out, but that was my fault, well maybe the scope got bumped in one specific case, but I had my chance.  My youngest son did fill his tag, so had my shot been true, we'd have went 2 for 2 in there again this year.

I don't have a lot to compare it to really as I almost always hunt here as it is close to home and allows me more hunting time/ opportunity than if I was traveling to hunt somewhere.

Alternatively, you can open the file in Windows Paint app and click on resize in the upper L. list of options.  Choose the "pixels" option and try something around 1200 X 800.  Save the result and post it.
