Blowfishing the carp spawn
« on: April 30, 2021, 08:45:02 PM »
The spawn is on and the lake is INFESTED.  Yall should go out and shoot as many as you can.  Vancouver Lake organization just paid gill netters to remove 1600+ and they are doing it again this month.

They have a Tournament in Moses every year. My BILís came in third one year with 270+ lbs (if I remember correctly) of carp.
It can be addictive...

I could see getting those kinds of numbers easily with a bow and just horsing them in.  The hardest part of the whole deal is disposal.  I can only dig so many holes.   :chuckle:

The spawn is on already? I thought it happened later in may. What lake?
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Vancouver lake.  I had been checking for the last couple weeks.  Water was super low last week.  I even brought a pole a few days ago in case it had not started.  When I got there the water was up and the carp were boiling in shallows.  This lake heats up really fast because its so shallow.

Really cool. We used to shoot them with bows back in MN. Lots of fun. I didnít know about shooting them on Vancouver lake. If my shoulder ever heals back up, I am going down there and give it a try.

That is really cool.  Have you ever tried smoking them?  If you can get past the bones they're not too bad, a little oily.  We used to shoot them with bows back in WI when I was younger.  Me and a buddy used to go out in a canoe.  He shot a monster one time that towed us around for awhile.  That one might have been 40 plus. We took them to a local bait shop and the guy would sell them to some coworkers down in Milwaukee.  Got us free minnows for the summer.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

I might try it one day.  If it was any other body of water I would do it now.  Its just something about that lake that seems too nastyy to eat anything out of it.  I know lots of the Russians keep carp at the Felida launch so they must be fine.  I just have to get over it probably and try one.  For now they will be bait for crawfish and maybe sturgeon.
