There was a hunting show on youtube that I watched when the Fierce Firearms post was going on and they killed a big 5x5 on the Mescalero Ranch in NM which is on the crow reservation if I'm not mistaken.  I've seen quite a few hunts on the Mescalero Ranch and they appear to have a healthy elk population with big bulls.   :dunno: :dunno:

Hate paying the tribe money. I’ve researched a couple New Mexico unit but didn’t draw :(. The units in Idaho snd Oregon just don’t produce 5x5s. There use to be a stud 5x5 and silver dollar casino in Montana that came out of that area I need to research some more. 15 years ago we all begged for a big 6

I've shot a few elk....but all cows with the exception of a yearling bull when I was 9 or 10.  We didn't know he was a bull till we rolled him over and saw he had nuts.

I am still hoping to kill a nice bull....  Multiple big bulls withing 30 yards while bow hunting, but no tag so they go to walk.   :bash: :bash:  I would gladly pay for an out of state tag or guide...but the cost is just as much as moose hunting in Canada, and I would rather kill bull moose.  One of these days....

Good luck in your search for the big 5x5.  I will being living vicariously though this post, hoping for pictures.

I've seen some big beautiful 5s with giant whale tails in the Gila in NM...but sounds like you're already applying there.

Apache I believe.  Amazing country up there.  That tribe knows what they are doing - trophy Elk, amazing turkey, Top notch resort (Inn of the Mountain Gods)

I saw a stud Rosie 5x5 about 6 years back while archery hunting. Dark-dark antlers with white tips! He was impressive. I'll always remember that rack as he grab his cows and left me behind lol!

I spent a few days looking for a 160 type giant fork last year, tag holder was going to shoot it over a 185 type buck

Hopefully he made the winter and we will be able to hunt him again this year
