Schnees it is
« on: December 03, 2023, 07:52:31 AM »
I bought a pair of Whites pack boots back in 1991 at Clark’s sporting good store in Colville.   They have seen a lot of country, snowmobile, snow shoe, hiking etc.   the last two years they had some silicon and duct tape holding them together.   I guess it’s finally time to replace them.   30 plus years for a pair of boots.   Not bad.    I am going to treat myself for a new pair of schnees for Christmas.

I have a pair of their Hunter 2 pac boots and love them. Had them for 6 years now & you can’t even tell how old they are. I live in North Dakota so they get worn a lot.

I have a pair of the Hunter 13”. I only use them in deep snow. They are comfortable and fairly stable on steeper ground for a pack boot. Good boot

That’s what I like to hear, good reviews!   It’s hard to imagine a boot being as good as these whites were, but they sure look like they should be.   I know I don’t have 30. Years of hardcore use left in me, so maybe if they make 20.  :)

Does anyone use gaters  with them.  I’ve never used gaters .   Too much noise.   I’ve always been a wool guy.  I’ve never really had a problem, but always wondered

Anyone ever wear the pull on pac boots?

I hate laces in cold snowy weather.

30 years for boots is crazy! How and when do you use Pac boots? Are they for riding horses or snow mobiles? Or are guys actually hiking in them? Also do your pants go under or over?

I have a pair from the same Era! They finally tore along the stitch seem where the rubber meets the leather below the stitching. On the top. Not sure how, I'm gonna save them and have Hoffman rebuild the lower rubbers. They will do it for around $100 I believe.

I used them for snowmobiling and hunting, or hiking in snow.   I used them snowshoeing and also for early season shed hunting.   I used them as work boots at home when working outside.

Pants depend on which ones I had on and what I was doing.   Both tucked and un tucked.

I had a pair of Schnees pac boots for over 10 years. Wore them with crampons and snow shoes all winter with deep snow. They are the best I have owned. I tore them in some rocks and didn't trust my repair job. I do wear gators under some circumstances but mostly to not tear up my pantlegs in brush and rocks. I also like wool pants and to keep them from sliding up in deep snow, you can get some pack straps and strap the cuff of your pants.

You will love them...I bought a pair in 94 when I was hound hunting in the snow...they have since been rebuilt and I only wear them in snow or when its really wet elk hunting. I can walk all day in them and they are comfortable! I have the 13" hunter pac boot...I do wear gaiters with mine to keep the snow from building up under my pant cuff. My only suggestion is to get an extra set of liners in case they get wet/sweaty easy to swap out!!!

I wear gaiters with mine when the snow is deep. I wear the boots for everything in the late season. Shoveling the driveway, snow blowing, upland hunting, deer/elk hunting, hiking. I use them both on the prairie & in the mountains.

That's mostly what I wear the last 10 years or so.  I used it during my Alaska hunt too.  I don't get wet and no need to wear gaiters.  I also have a laced boot, but that's just for backup.

I have the Beartooth and the Granite. I freaking love them! I have tried just about everything out there in this price point and for my feet Schnees reign supreme.

Still open, I don't know that they have Schnees, but I've bought multiple pairs of Kenetrek there.

Another option was Hoffman's.  I snagged a pair for Wyoming and now they are my favorite winter boot.  I wear them here all the time when we have snow and I have used them in the midwest for cold sits.  Feet stay toasty and dry.   I bought the 12" Hoffman Double Insulated Guides. Under $300, shipped the next day, had them 3 days later.

My Schnee's timberlines have handles 3 seasons and thousands of miles. Just now getting finicky with the water resistance. Going to Nixwax them for a second time this season, see what happens. I do have a fresh pair of Beartooths at home as their replacement. Decided I wanted to try a bit stiffer boot after some tough side hilling this year.

Also bought Hoffman over Schnees for a pac boot this year. Mainly just because I read so many good reviews on the Hoffmans. I did go a half size down from my tennis shoe size. They were great the other weekend. Put 10 miles on them one day and my feet were happy.

Clarks was open when we were there in the spring for baseball. Seemed to be alive and well. Bought some ammo, browsed around.

I’m thinking about these.

Funny thing about those, a dude on Rokslide tagged Hoffman's in a post saying they should make a slip on pac boot. A year and a half later, it's out for sale. Not sure if it was a result of that post but...would be cool if it was.

Used Whites from 1972 to 2004 and they were good boots. Switched to Hoffmans' bob claws for hunting/hiking and calks for work, they're the toughest packs friends and I have used.
