Heavy metal (Kenworth C500's)
« on: March 03, 2026, 08:54:54 PM »
This is for the gearheads, I know there'sa few of you in here.  Have a buddy up on the slope sent me this pic today.   If you know,  you know.

They get serious about their road building and maintenance.  These all pull double bed side dumpers, 85 ton payload in the winter.

He said the newest models have 600 Cummins in them.  I believe those are the red ones with the wide noses.  Not sure what the older trucks have.

The owner of the fleet is famously meticulous about his drivers keeping his equipment in top shape. My buddy said the oldest ones look as good as the newest ones.  The owner will fly in and the first thing he does is jump in all the cabs and look in the ashtrays for evidence of smoking.  And Heaven help ya if you didn't clean off the floor mats at the end of your shift.  :chuckle:

I did a lot of heavy haul with a little off road stuff thrown in before I retired .
Did some helicopter logging , cell phone tower and windmill site work .
Main difference between them and regular models was the really thick frame rails and upgraded cooling systems .
And usually heavy duty 2 speed rear axles .
Mine and logging duty is hard on machines .

Great pic!  Wish I could see it in person.  I have been in the KW Renton plant several times and loved seeing the big boys getting outfitted for the oilfields.
Saw some with massive sand tires and machine gun mounts one time.
