As the sign-carrying crowd formed up in the Bi-Mart parking lot to march on the nearby Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Northeast Region office, Potter gave a reporter some reasons for his activism."
Joseph rancher Kerry Tienhaara was another to speak, describing wolf predation.
“A calf that was alive and bouncing around the day before is gutted out,” she said. “Here comes the wolf and we are not allowed to protect our property. This is more about property rights and freedom to me.”
Dave Sherod was another representing an organized group. He said Stewards of the Wallowas has been formed to help people protect their property and their freedom.
“We firmly believe the wolf is disrupting the peace of Wallowa County,” he said.
Wallowa County Commissioner Paul Castilleja also was on hand for the rally. He said he sees the presence of wolves as an encroachment on property rights.
“We need to get them out of there,” he said.
