Why I love opening day of crab....and the ongoing season!
« on: July 02, 2012, 08:18:35 AM »
Oh how do I count the ways.....

Could be having some nice ( total of 7) fat crab to take home to a feast...

Could be having my bro in law out on the boat, playing crib, soaking pots....

Could be watching all the idiots at the boat launch get tickets for who knows which infractions...

Could be watching the one guy bump the other guys boat then try and drive off until he noticed said bro in law
taking his picture with his phone.....the flipping a u turn and coming back....

Could be the guy in the huge 40 plus foot yatch giving me the hands up "wtf" guesture cause I'm pulling a pot 40 feet of his bow. Hello???? There are 100 pots out here......you don't want me this close....don't park in the middle of them......

Could be hearing (and getting a video text) of Ripper out on the water watching the orcas frolic (his word, not mine)..........

Could be watching folks that forgot how to back up a trailer relearning on the fly when everyone is ready to go home and eat crab............

For me.......it is all those things.

The three limits we got here are the best eats ever!  I like how everyone asks "what you fishing for?". Kings I say and the looks I get are awesome.  I catch fish while soaking pots.  None yet but we didnt grind it out.  When I get a king I'll post pics should only be a few days to find a few.  Sittin at home three minutes after docking the boat is sweet.  Good luck to all crabbers and anglers!

All of which is why I wait until the Monday after the opener.  Launch empty this morning – pots out at sunrise – home with a limit by 6:30am

I still maintain that the best meal I have ever eaten was freshly caught dungeoness steamed right on the beach.

A few to add.....

Could be watching people sit in line for 15 minutes waiting to launch, and then removing straps and putting in plugs on the ramp...

Could be watching a guy chug a beer driving a wide open skiff in front of the cops at the launch.   :bdid:

Could be the 9 limits my friends and I got in under an hour  :IBCOOL:.

Could be going diving, and seeing an empty pot on the bottom with 3 huge crab standing on top of it.

Could be the crab feast that followed, and the pile of legs and claws that was left after everyone had already stuffed themselves.

Whatever it is, I'll be heading back out for more the first chance I get!!

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

Why is low tide on opening day always a -tide. I tried to get back to the launch at low tide, there wasnt any water at the launch. Current was ripping with the big tide, I'm glad you guys on here recomended I put more weight in the pots.

Why is low tide on opening day always a -tide.

It increases the entertainment factor at the launch.

Exactly..........

Had a guy next to me with a brand spanking new boat. Gonna get him some crab! Anyway......temp regristration in the window.....first dip in the salt. He sees into my boat and asks about the paddle and throw cushion. Ever need that? I said no but you better have it or you gonna get a ticket at best. He asks surprised and says "Really.......well I told the guy at Cabelas to make sure and give me everything I need." Uh....yeah....may not want to say that to anyone doing compliace and safety check.....for sure a ticket, if not worse, waiting to happen.
