Hunter memorials

We made one in Montana for a friend of mines grandpa. Hiked a big pole and two bags of concrete up on the top of a ridge and made a flage pole put an american flag on it with a plaque at the base. Go back and change the flag every year.

We laid my father's ashes to rest on Bethel Ridge about a mile straight up from his favorite elk camp. 

I covered it with his favorite hunting blanket and left the antlers of the first deer i ever shot on top of it.  This is located well off the beaten track in a place he can see the sunrise every day and not too far from where I killed my first buck. 

We laid him to rest there in spring of 2002 and I try to make it back at least once a year.  The blanket is still there under the big sage.  I always takes me a few minutes to find the exact spot, but once i do it knocks me to my knees.

There's 2 memorials side by side in the Umtanum overlooking a huge area of the Cascades.   Very nicely done posts/plaques to 2 old hunters.  I've always wanted to know the story. 

My buddy and I spread the ashes of his old friend and hunting partner a few years back up on Clemens.  I had never done that before, very touching.

Good on you for honoring a long time friend and hunting partner.

the 1st time I came across it I was peering across the canyon and almost stepped on it.  I thought the same thing, if somebody knew the story or at least recognized the family?

 I've found one in Winston Creek, one in Wynoochee, and a plaque in Satsop dedicated to a girl that was murdered there and also the detective who finally solved the case was added to the plaque post mortem.

There is one up near Buck Meadows in the campground.  I can't recall the guys name, but I like to see them as it shows respect and admiration for friends.

Is this the one up by riders camp? It's a little headstone on a concrete slab all fenced off from the rest of the area just off the side of the road looking out into the meadow?

Hey Mike, You are not forgotten!

Today we made our hike back up to a family member's memorial in the mountains. Pretty much the same description for the day  as I wrote on page one of this thread. Long hike, hot and sweaty, darn well worth the effort. We had others with us, but I wanted to keep this simple and consistant. Always rewarding at the top with the view. Feels good to spend time with family to remember ones that have past on.
