I have a couple .I love them and hunt deer, elk and bear with them. Definitely not too much gun. Besides, how much meat you ruin has more to do with bullet you select then caliber.
I have a "know-it-all" buddy that hunts, more then I have in recent years, he keeps telling me a 300 win mag was the only gun worth hunting with. So....of course........ I got one Now since I bought a 300 mag he says I am just going to ruin all my meat because its too powerful and will blow a huge hole and blah blah blah. but.. he tends to be on the know it all side, but worse, the jealous side.. true, false?
Guys like that crack me up. If he's so in love with the 300WM at first but bagging on it now. What does he shoot? 'Cause I'm thinking it's not a 300WM...I'll go ahead and guess what he's going to say about most calibers:.243 - "Too small for deer, too big for coyotes.".25-06 - "Can't buy ammo everywhere.".270 - "Jack O'Connor was a closeted homosexual."7mm RemMag - "Kicks too hard, eats barrels."30-06 - "Boring, everybody has one."300WM - "Blows up too much meat."338WM - "Too much gun for deer. Makes my pu**y hurt to shoot it. Owie."You think he's jealous now, just wait until you drop a deer with your 300WM. No matter what it is, it's gonna suck compared to the one you didn't shoot. You have a great round. I think it is one of the best out there. What kind of rifle did you get it in?

The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.
