Bull Down! over the counter DIY!
« on: September 09, 2012, 02:52:50 PM »
My buddy and I Worked hard all summer scouting. This is our first year hunting the west side of the state for elk. This is his first elk. He has been there all season, I had to leave on Thursday due to work :bash: Last night at about six i get text from him saying he shot a bull. I called him and he said the shot was a little farther back than he would like and he didn't hear the bull crash. He found his arrow and it looked like it hit the liver but there wasn't a whole lot of blood. He decided to back out and come back this morning. Well he got there this morning and found him just a ways off from where he saw him last night. I will let him tell you guys the real good details when he gets home. Now he has a few days to spot a couple for me come thursday. :chuckle: Good luck out there

He looks like a really nice bull.  I tried to blow it up with "pinch" on the Mac and I just could not get it big enough.  Anyway, I'd be pleased.  Congrats to him.

That elk could have been dead about 12 hours in not the coolest weather even if it does cool some overnight.   I have seen those situations turn out good and bad.  Not spoiled but could be a bit soured.  But then again just as likely to be just fine.  I hate leaving animals down overnight but sometimes it can't be helped.  It is nice to see some bulls going down this early season.

Yeah i was worried about that to, but if he wasnt dead i didnt want to spook him. the shot ended up better then i had thought got the liver and lungs he went about 90 yards and died actually didnt make it out of the clear cut. Well you live and you learn it was just my first time shooting an elk but now i know. The meat is just fine though not sour at all processing it right now its great  :)
