Black Tail Trophy Tactics book
« on: September 26, 2012, 08:51:52 AM »
I just started reading this book by Boyd Iverson.  My wife bought it for me while I was gone as a welcome home gift.  I've only finished the first couple chapters.  Man alive, this is a really good book.  I think there is more information packed into each section than I am capable of remembering in the brush.  I'm really impressed with Boyd's willingness to teach and mentor in this manner.

Do y'all know if  he is a member of this board?  I'd like to send him a message to say thanks.

Excellent read for sure. You'll retain more if you read it again later. I am not sure what he's doing these days. I think he's been doing more out of state hunts like Wyoming do to his old haunts being encroached upon...or maybe he wiped out the gene pool for those B & C blacktails. :IBCOOL:

He also has another book, Blacktail Tactics 2. I read them both every year. Each time you pick up something new to  carry with you. :)

Funny, I used to work with Boyd's brother.  He retired last year though.

I read at least #1 or #2 every year. I try to rotate them but over the years  I've probably read the same one in consecutive years. Last I heard his honey hole where he did most of his research and hunting got logged but that was a while back so it may be pretty productive hunting once again. Wish I knew where that gene pool was.

In regards to the location of this gene pool. Just find any private land in kitsap county and you will find the big bucks. 99% of Boyds hunting is or has been on private property in Kitsap county, some of it he even had permission to be there. He does indeed have a lot of blacktail experience though.

Great book and yes packed with good info!
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

My bad. I was thinking of another Boyd. Obviously I have not read the books and should. I love hunting blacktails.

I'm rereading the 2nd one at the moment myself.  Hard to juggle that and study for work certification exams though.  The Blacktail Tactics II is so much more interesting LOL.
