Mountain coyote hunting
« on: November 04, 2012, 12:32:55 AM »
So I'm headin out next weekend for a mtn dog hunt in the eastern cascades. I've only hunted around home on the desert flats. Any tips to hunting coyotes in the mountains?

They are much bigger in the mountains, almost as big as a wolf, shoot away and don't let them fool you!!

Plan on fast action. They might be right on top of you before you see them. I prefer a shotgun in the woods.

Yeah--them mountain coyotes is big an' mean!  Kill 'em all!  :chuckle:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Hunt treed areas with little underbrush or clearcuts and meadows using a electronic caller and decoy. Set the caller and decoy out in the middleand sit on the side they are least likely to show up from ie down wind, road, where you walked in from etc...

I see fewer that the dessert flats but still worth going.  They are not as skittish.  I have been surprised how many I have seen at 50-60 yards just stand there and let me walk by.  Usually stupid coyote = Dead coyote.   unfortunatly I am in the Okanagan in Sept. and see them during archery deer season
