I feel you... Was 65 degrees out yesterday when I got back to my car... Didn't see a single animal.. I hiked 26 miles total this weekend, and through some of the worst brush and timber... And saw one deer and a frog all weekend. Definitely a weird season this year. Opening morning usually sounds like a war zone when it gets light out where I hunt. This year, and 1 set of shots from the same person, and and asking around it doesn't even sound like he got anything. I think space aliens come abduct all the elk the night of the 2nd and then return them after the season... That's the only logical explanation for the fact that there were elk somewhere one day, and then no where to be found for 20 miles 12hrs later.

Anytime you can get out into the field and hunt with family is a good hunt no matter if you fill your tag or not.
Anytime you can get out and hunt is a good time....sure beats doing chores around the farm!
If you love something you will set it free, if it don't come home, hunt it down and kill it.

Someday you will not be able to hunt with your Dad. Cherish every day you have with him. I lost my Dad when he was 47 in 1962. Long time ago.

I hate to say it, but it is hunting, not killing.  Some years just suck but that makes the years that you are successful awesome!

It sounds like a cat (or wolf) to me, we hunt the same hillside every year and there are ALWAYS elk there.  This year the elk were holding up about two canyons away and the deer and elk didn't hang out where they usually do.  During a buddy's bull hunt he killed a cougar on that hillside.  By the time modern elk rolled around the hillside was full of elk again.  Time to do some predator hunting.

The title of this thread cracked me up.  Not 1 year goes by where be it elk hunting, deer hunting, etc .... it gets referred to as dumb at least one evening in our camp  :chuckle:

that is all.   :bash: :bash:

:chuckle:  You probably haven't been elk hunting very long if that thought hasn't crossed your mind at some point.  It's only dangerous if it stays there.  Fortunately, my memory is short and I forget how cold, wet, miserable, tired, discouraged I am about 10 minutes after I get warm or get some food in me.  Then I can't wait to go again.

Teanaway unit was nearly bare of animals this year... I personally blame it on the Teanaway Wolf Pack. Too bad there needs to be something like, 12 more bredding pairs before we can start thinning them out huh.... Damn Wolves!

Thanks! I'm just glad to see animals. Being out there only gives a chance to harvest. It's about the hunt to me. Although harvesting an animal sure would be nice.  8)
