Finished an awesome season

This elk hunt started a couple weeks ago.  My buddy called up some friends in Western Washington to see if we could come over from the dry side and fill my Multi-Season tag. 

We headed over Friday and after taking a tour of the trophy room (WOW!) We headed up to get the lay of the land.  As we were driving up into the hills this Dry Sider didn't know what the heck I got myself into.  As soon as we got up to the clear cuts we spotted a cow.  We continued on to check out a few more spots and found two legal bulls.  My optimism was growing despite the horrible weather.  The next morning we were headed up to where we found those two bulls.  After taking a couple wrong roads we made it up to where those two bulls were.  When it started to get light it was apparent the weather wasn't going to cooperate. (blowing 30, rain, and pea soup fog) 

We decided to leave the two bulls since we couldn't hunt them effectively and try to get below the weather.  We hit a patch of timber we saw a cow the night before.  We decided to do a quick hunt in the timber.  As I made my way through the timber I started to find more and more sign.  As i was working a timbered ridge I noticed an elk 100 yds below me bedded down but its head was behind a tree.  I worked my way down the ridge to get a look at its head...its a bull.  Those dark horns are hard to see in that dark timber.  I got a rest on an old Cedar and touched 'er off.  He stood up and fell over.

I got down to him and finally realized how big these Roosevelts are, I'm gonna need some help.  I hoofed it back to the truck to get the reinforcements.  We drove around to another road closer to the bull, grabbed the packs and took off.  After a nice hike in the devils club and and alders we got to the bull.  We quartered him up and got him out of the mtns by 3:30.  The pack out was easy considering it was straight up and down through a creek, and lots of devils club and alders. 

This capped off an awesome season.  Thanks to Richard, Steven, Gail and Travis for for putting us up and showing us one heck of a great weekend.  A special thanks to Heath for setting this hunt up and getting me up to speed on the local hunting as well.  What a season can't wait til next year.  Now i need to find a good butcher.

Looks like you typical wetside roosie hunt....thickkk dark timber, and lots of rain :chuckle: congrats on an awesome elk
