I feel lucky enough to have 1 in the 20 years, not from the lack of trying either.  Guess I don't have the luck or skill some have here, or don't know the right place or people.

I refuse to give up though, I remember my father stating after I shot mine making the comment there are those who go their whole life without getting a deer (this included him)

This is one of the reasons I love living vicariously through the hunts and stories everyone else shares here.

getting excited about deer hunting in WA

not that you said this, but made me think of it....... I hear all the time on here the reference of getting excited about killing something.   Is it weird that I really don't hold joy in killing a deer or any animal for that matter.  Except maybe wolves. LOL   Am I turning green?  I enjoy the hunt, I enjoy the harvest, but I don't enjoy killing....
Maybe this should be another thread???

But, what you do experience with your photography means you have the skill to succeed in the harvesting should you choose to.  It is not about the killing it is about the time spent with family, friends and mother nature.

8. 4 blacktail 3 muleys and a whitetail all from WA. 2 with bow 6 with rifle. I'm 25 and haven't had the chance to hunt out of state yet but that will change soon when I'm out of college.  I'm gonna have a hard time leaving before I get that big blacky that I want so bad  Maybe I can seal the deal here in the late season, as I do have til december 31  :IBCOOL:

Between AR,WA, ID, and MT, does and bucks, maybe 35?  The bulk of them were AR whitetail does. I am 31.

I've killed a blacktail every year since I started hunting them. Killed my tenth one this year, all bucks. My dad can't stand hunting around here so I didn't start until I was 16. Killed my first buck at 9 years old, a muley in Montana. I think I'm at 7 mule deer now so that makes it 17 bucks total. Still trying to get my first whitetail buck.

sirmissalot,  One of these years how about I get you on good whitetail ground (in 121) in trade you get me on good blacktail ground?  Something to think about anyway.  I have been thinking about blacktail for awhile now and spend a few weeks in Aberdeen every year.  May have to make some aberdeen trips during the 4 day late season in future years.

Absolutely man, I'd love to. Rifle season is where it's at for blacktail, and there are a couple permits you can apply for that would up your odds on a mature buck if you feel like burning some quality buck tags on a Wiley old blacktail.

Been hunting since 1976 and always managed to find a deer for the freezer.  All blacktails.   Best buck so far is an average 3 point.   Cannot seem to beg, borrow or steal a 4 point!!!  And until this season, that was all in the area around Toutle, and included 4 with a bow and 1 with a muzzy.

:lol4: I was thinking that same thing. . Blowing on the ole deer whistle helps get tuned in sometimes, but too much and too often in definetly a bad thing.

I'm not sure exactly, in Indiana where I grew up, you can harvest multiple  of does. I think I've taken 6 bucks though. Probably somewhere around 20-25 deer total.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

Lost track of exact numbers but as close as I can guess.  2 Sitka blacktails, 2 Washington benchleg blackies, several other coastal blackies, 4 or 5 Washington mulies, a bunch of WA whitetails, one Idaho whitie and 4 Alabama whities.  Oh, and 2 California blackies.  All bucks, never shot a doe and never will.   I've loaned out or given away so many racks that I don't have anything to reference them all.  Dumb move.

7 Total: 2 Buck's, 5 Doe's.

1 Blacktail buck in WA, rest were Whitetails in Oklahoma.

4 taken with modern, 2 with Boomstick and 1 Bow kill.

I'm 26 and took hunters ed in 2000, didn't really get into hunting though till 2004 when I nailed my first buck in the Yacolt Burn. Been hooked ever since.

And as to the whole "killing" vs "harvest" thing, we all call it and deal with things differently. I work in Oregon with a bunch of tree hunggin hippies :bash:, so I like messin with people and tell them if I don't get the Bloodlust out of my system during hunting season I'm gunna have go slaughter all the animals in a pet store...They get all twisted up about me saying that...I find it funny they get twisted up. they all like the deer meat I bring in though, odd how that works. :chuckle:

 :yeah:
Same hear, shot my first buck at age 6 and 41 years later have never lost or wounded an animal, bow, rifle or muzzy.  With that said, I have missed a lot of opportunities waiting for the perfect shot.  I would rather him walk off to live another day than take a risky shot and have him die a slow, miserable death.
