Would you leave that much camera equipment sitting on your front seat while you go climb a mountain and didn't I sacrifice enough of the rest of my season just taking pics. :)

There is nothing wrong with shooting one close to the road. I have been and put many a mile under my boot only to shoot one a couple hundered feet from the road. Some times a guy has to earn it before the mighty one feels you put in the extra effort and deserve it. Then I guess it can be chalked up to luck.

THe long story is there is no story.   A 5x5 with eyeguards.  I haven't told my story as there is no story.  I don't feel like being judged for my feelings about how pitiful my hunt was.   I saw him from the road, walked up to him and killed him.   That kind of hunt does not float my boat but I don't want to seem smug about someone elses form of hunting.   I hope all those poised for judgement can understand.   Meat is in the freezer, the $180 tag is notched.  I don't have pics.  I plan on doing the maceration thing maybe.
I wouldn't judge anyone for taking one off the road, and you shouldn't feel bad for it either. Nothing wrong with taking an easy one after lots of hard ones! :)

just because people don't post pics or stories doesn't mean they didn't notch their tag. ;)

I won't judge you. I shot my biggest deer ever a few years ago. We hunted 5 days hard (out of the truck) and saw nothing. We finally gave up and got back in the truck to head out of the area. Giant 4 x 4 mulie walks out 10 feet in front of the truck. It made it across the road, across the ditch, and I shot it before it hit the timber at 5 yards. When we got back to camp, everyone was thinking we packed in 10 miles plus to get a deer that size. I felt embarassed to even tell the story, as it was not much of one. Cettainately was not what I call "hunting". I call it "right place, right time hunting aka GOT LUCKY!" Hey...I will take it, but it would have been nice to share something good with everyone. Still a great memory!

:yeah: I shot my biggest buck driving in between spots. The deer are where you find them. sometimes that not where they are supposed to be....  ;) :chuckle:

Sometimes we just get lucky, I walked 1/2 mile in on gated road this year and my buck ran to me like a lap dog.  :dunno:

Just think of all the ones that were not easy. Maybe it is a little payback for putting on many many miles for a buck. Or maybe putting on many many miles, and not getting a buck at all. One of my bigger bucks was a buck that anyone could have killed. I had a 3rd season tag in CO, and on the opening evening, a big buck crossed the road and stopped up on the hill. I was riding along heading back to the truck, I jumped off my quad, walked up the hill maybe 20 yards, put a single shell in, and my hunt was over. It was a good buck, but means less to me than many of the smaller bucks I have taken. Just take the easy with the hard, it all evens itself out.

Bone, we call it the points system. If you work your a$$ off and don't see a thing, if you help another hunter get a deer, etc you gain lots of points. You must have had a lot of points from passing all the deer you take pictures of. :twocents:
