I can't wait to see the firestorm that has already started to play out on him.  I can't believe he used national television to get his personal message out.  He needs to be fired for this one!

I just like the page. He is such an idiot... if a person really wants to take another life does he really think having tighter laws on gun control will stop them? I thought we were done with all the politics for a few years. If he doesn't get fired they should atleast suspend him for the rest of the season without pay for him voicing his own opinions...  :bdid:

Yep!  I turned it off after that too.

You never hear such stupidity when someone uses a car to kill somebody.  I guess owning cars just encourages and empowers people to drive.  And gun related deaths pale in comparison to car related deaths.  I personally know about a dozen people who would be alive today if we had just outlawed cars.  Throw in another half dozen if we were to outlaw drugs and alcohol.  Oh wait a minute...I think those drugs were illegal :dunno:

It was definitely a tragedy that two people were killed.  But, there is just one "Person" to blame here.

Bob Costas, you're a moron.  If I was a tennage girl and had a Facebook page I'd "Like" the fire Bob Costas.

I was channel surfing while doing stuff on line when I caught the start of his   comments.  I thought "did I really just hear that"?

I wonder what % of NFL fans are gun owners.

So, like I said I don't really follow sports. Are sports commentators not allowed express political opinions in general, or just on certain issues?  :dunno:

On one hand I agree the guy is a moron and his opinions are wrong, but last I checked we still have the right to have and even speak out on our wrong opinions.

Hank Williams Jr. Was fired from ESPN for speaking his, Costas should be no different.

It's one thing to speak your mind from your own soap box but another when you take a nationally viewed TV show, owned and operated by people with different views, that don't have the opportunity to express their opinion on the subject as well, and make your own political statement.

Now guns are in the headlines again and we did;nt need that second amendment or not. Don;t see how some are feeling sorry for Jovan Belcher ball player or not he just killed someone then took the easy way out and killed himself to draw more attention to poor me. He should have spent the rest of his days in prison watching football on television . It was no brains that killed his girlfriend and left a little girl without parents. Thats three pro players that have taken there own lives this year. Boib Costas and Jovon Belcher have now got america looking into gun controll and we may be the victims.

I just saw that as well. I am no longer a fan of his. As for Costas I was watching it thinking that I could not believe they did not cut away and go to commercial. He will not lose his job cause he is considered sportscasting royalty, but he should.

Ya, if all sports commentator are not allowed to express political opinions then absolutely fire him. I mainly asked because I don't know what the expectation is regarding sports commentators. If they are allowed to express political opinions then there is no cause to fire him IMHO.

I think there is a time a place to express your opinion and that was not the time or place.  The problem with media people is they have a very large soap box in which to speak off of.  Stick to what your there reporting or broadcasting on.  Your not CNN or MSNBC.  If you wish too talk about such things find a job over there.

My message to pianomans mans address

Thanks to you for allowing Costas to ruin SNF for me last night and give me the chance to immediarely switch to 60 minutes.  Editorializing his/your disdain for the supreme law of the land belongs on Sunday morning talk shows like This Week, Face The Nation, or Meet The Press, NOT on Sunday Night Football. If Costas is not relieved of his job with SNF, Or at the very least make a public apology next week, I and many others will be just fine enjoying it on  Dial Global radio while boycotting your sponsors.

  Thank You

correct, but you forgot to add that it wasn't offensive at all... it was the truth...

but the NFL let the left push them around (probably didn't need much pushing if Costas is what you typically find at the top of the organization.... which is quite likely since government has control of America's schools/Universities).

Rush Limbaugh's comments

His comment about McNabb was: "I don't think he's been that good from the get-go. I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They're interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there's a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

Jimmy The Greek was attempting (poorly I might add) to praise the black athletes of today and was fired in '88. Even though his comments were statistically true or so thought at the time and were made on an NBC broadcast while working for CBS.  His status in broadcasting at that time was not that much different than Costas.

I could not watch any of the Olympic coverage with Costas either.  He's always been an irritation even when he hasn't been making such ignorant statements.

I'm on Facebook but never 'Like' anybody or anything but I've made an exception in this case. I did my part so now we can only hope that everyone else does theirs and gets this idiot in trouble. He'd probably roll over and play dead in a life and death situation like the true coward that he is.

O'Reilly blasted Costas and was obviously heated, which you seldom see from him.

Jimmy The Greek was attempting (poorly I might add) to praise the black athletes of today and was fired in '88. Even though his comments were statistically true and were made on an NBC broadcast while working for CBS.  His status in broadcasting at that time was not that much different than Costas.

I could not watch any of the Olympic coverage with Costas either.  He's always been an irritation even when he hasn't been making such ignorant statements.

What got Jimmy the Greek fired was claiming black athletes did well because of selective breeding in the days of slavery, I watched it.

Jimmy The Greek was attempting (poorly I might add) to praise the black athletes of today and was fired in '88. Even though his comments were statistically true or so thought at the time and were made on an NBC broadcast while working for CBS.  His status in broadcasting at that time was not that much different than Costas.

Yes, but he was trying to praise athletes of color for taking advantage of such and dominating the sports.(During dinner that included a bit too much alcohol I think)  As I said he did a very poor job of it, but he was intending to praise the athletes for making the most out of a terrible time in black history.  It was believed to be statistically true at the time prior to the research in the book Taboo which pretty much disproved the belief.  Though even today athletes like Micheal Johnson believe that some do benefit from such a gene even if it is not prevalent in all athletes/people of color.  CBS probably did do the right thing in letting "The Greek" go.  Stupidity does have it's consequences.  That was an amazingly stupid series of statements by Jimmy Snyder and I believe CBS was justified.

Costas has not made the racial comment mistakes that Jimmy The Greek did.  However, using the NFL platform to make a soapbox speech about gun control while seeming to dismiss the tragedy of two lives lost and lacking (for loss of a better word) empathy was in my opinion a stupid and ignorant mistake.  One that I believe should have consequences.  Perhaps not to the extent of of Jimmy The Greek's stupidity where he spends the rest of his life apologizing and ultimately being forced into seclusion.  But consequences nonetheless.

Jimmy the Greek
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

eamil sent to nbc lets see how this plays out.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

From that page

   7:57pm Dec 4
An e-mail sent to me by a friend today.

" Americans who tuned in to watch Sunday Night football were treated to a heavy dose of anti-gun rights propaganda by sports anchor turned anti-gun zealot, Bob Costas.
NBC provided a platform for Costas, an avowed liberal, to spring his anti-gun rights agenda on an unsuspecting audience.
To make matters worse, Costas and NBC tried to pretend these were not their official positions by having Costas quote an anti-gun column, where the author blamed our "gun culture" for the murder of an innocent woman, which acted as a virtual endorsement of the gun-grabbing agenda.
If you think it's inappropriate for NBC to push its radical leftist agenda during sporting events, please contact NBC Sports Vice Presidents of Communication Chris McCloskey and Adam Freifeld by phone at 212-664-5598 or 212-664-6772 and by email at christopher.mccloskey@nbcuni.com and adam.freifeld@nbcuni.com and let them know that a football game is no time for gun-grabbing propaganda.
It's unconscionable that NBC Sports exploited the tragic murder-suicide involving a Kansas City Chiefs player and the mother of his child to promote the Radical Left's agenda of banning guns.
The liberal media have more than enough outlets to promote a left-wing ideology. Call or email NBC and let them know that football night in America is a time for football, not left-wing politics.
Thank you as always for helping us hold the liberal media accountable."
