So, like I said I don't really follow sports. Are sports commentators not allowed express political opinions in general, or just on certain issues?  :dunno:

On one hand I agree the guy is a moron and his opinions are wrong, but last I checked we still have the right to have and even speak out on our wrong opinions.

Well, Rush Limbaugh was fired from after some comments he made when he was an NFL commentator.   :twocents:  Why should Costas be any different....... :dunno:

Ya, but I think Rush was fired for calling someone a prostitute wasn't he? Which would be slander or libel I would think. (I always get those 2 mixed up)

Hank Willians wasn't allowed to give his opinion.
If you spend money or watch football for the next month, you deserve what you get.
We need to send a message that we will not be bullied.

Ya, if all sports commentator are not allowed to express political opinions then absolutely fire him. I mainly asked because I don't know what the expectation is regarding sports commentators. If they are allowed to express political opinions then there is no cause to fire him IMHO.

Rush Limbaugh's firing from NFL's Monday Night Football was over something he said about McNab that some people took to be racially offensive.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Need to get Micheal Wilbon fired as well, his comments were just as crazy. These guys need to stick to sports and leave their political views out.

I think there is a time a place to express your opinion and that was not the time or place.  The problem with media people is they have a very large soap box in which to speak off of.  Stick to what your there reporting or broadcasting on.  Your not CNN or MSNBC.  If you wish too talk about such things find a job over there.

My message to pianomans mans address

Thanks to you for allowing Costas to ruin SNF for me last night and give me the chance to immediarely switch to 60 minutes.  Editorializing his/your disdain for the supreme law of the land belongs on Sunday morning talk shows like This Week, Face The Nation, or Meet The Press, NOT on Sunday Night Football. If Costas is not relieved of his job with SNF, Or at the very least make a public apology next week, I and many others will be just fine enjoying it on  Dial Global radio while boycotting your sponsors.

  Thank You

correct, but you forgot to add that it wasn't offensive at all... it was the truth...

but the NFL let the left push them around (probably didn't need much pushing if Costas is what you typically find at the top of the organization.... which is quite likely since government has control of America's schools/Universities).

Rush Limbaugh's comments

His comment about McNabb was: "I don't think he's been that good from the get-go. I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They're interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there's a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

Jimmy The Greek was attempting (poorly I might add) to praise the black athletes of today and was fired in '88. Even though his comments were statistically true or so thought at the time and were made on an NBC broadcast while working for CBS.  His status in broadcasting at that time was not that much different than Costas.

I could not watch any of the Olympic coverage with Costas either.  He's always been an irritation even when he hasn't been making such ignorant statements.

I'm on Facebook but never 'Like' anybody or anything but I've made an exception in this case. I did my part so now we can only hope that everyone else does theirs and gets this idiot in trouble. He'd probably roll over and play dead in a life and death situation like the true coward that he is.

O'Reilly blasted Costas and was obviously heated, which you seldom see from him.

What got Jimmy the Greek fired was claiming black athletes did well because of selective breeding in the days of slavery, I watched it.

Yes, but he was trying to praise athletes of color for taking advantage of such and dominating the sports.(During dinner that included a bit too much alcohol I think)  As I said he did a very poor job of it, but he was intending to praise the athletes for making the most out of a terrible time in black history.  It was believed to be statistically true at the time prior to the research in the book Taboo which pretty much disproved the belief.  Though even today athletes like Micheal Johnson believe that some do benefit from such a gene even if it is not prevalent in all athletes/people of color.  CBS probably did do the right thing in letting "The Greek" go.  Stupidity does have it's consequences.  That was an amazingly stupid series of statements by Jimmy Snyder and I believe CBS was justified.

Costas has not made the racial comment mistakes that Jimmy The Greek did.  However, using the NFL platform to make a soapbox speech about gun control while seeming to dismiss the tragedy of two lives lost and lacking (for loss of a better word) empathy was in my opinion a stupid and ignorant mistake.  One that I believe should have consequences.  Perhaps not to the extent of of Jimmy The Greek's stupidity where he spends the rest of his life apologizing and ultimately being forced into seclusion.  But consequences nonetheless.

Jimmy the Greek

eamil sent to nbc lets see how this plays out.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
