We can make extra spending money but in all actuality if we break even we are lucky.
Prices of furs vary being based on time of season it was taken, handling of the fur, supply and demand. One year my partner and I had $700 dollars worth of muskrat fur and held them for an extra week, We were lucky to get $300.

With the expense of cage traps I'd say you would be doing good to break even. You might make a few bucks after the traps were paid for, not the first year.
You'd be crazy to take it up as a  money making endeavor but what other type hunting can hold out the hope of paying expenses.
Comes at a time when other hunting is closing down too so it's a chance to get out.
Then again you risk the chance of getting bit by the trapping bug. It's a lifelong illness, no cure but it can be treated during the winter months. :chuckle:

For the first time in my life I'm making money at it and I've been doing it for just over 20 years 😜

With that said as soon as I make some extra cash I turn around and spend it on more traps and more lure! It's very addicting. What else would you be doing Dec. - March?
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

You could probably make money at rats (IN your area) if you could dedicate yourself and did not have to work,,,,,,,,
