I currently have a Leupold gold ring 12-40 x 60mm. I have not looked a Vortex spotting scope before. How would the11- 33 x 50 compare.

I have looked through your spotter, it wasn't a bad spotter at all & will do the job for sure! I have not looked through the new Razor HD 11-33X50 as they are not out yet, not until April. So far they've had demos out at the Shows but that's about it. I'm assuming they are in the same category as their big brother the 85mm Razor HD spotter, I do own this one & it is an awesome unit. The smaller version Razor coming out should hold true to the same features of clarity & resolution, it has HD/ED glass as well as multiple coatings which separates itself from ones that do not. I too want to get my hands on one! (grin)

I checked out the 65mm for $1200 it has really good glass is light and functional.
The focal knobs and magnification knob are smooth but not as quality as swaro or minox and the like. They have a tinny feel to them. The lens shade also feels substantially cheaper than a swaro.
But if your looking at a thin budget like me. If you want  something light with more than adequate glass and has a great warranty to back it up the razor hd 65 is worth looking at 

On a side note wholesale sports in Burlington isnt what it used to be.... the guy behind the gun counter had a dip in and was using censored words. Not very professional. He wasnt the only one. Out of the 6 people i had contact with in the store one wanted to sleep, 2 were dipping, 2 were talking crap and cussing and one was helpful.

I've had a chance to look through & field test  the Razor HD 50mm, 65mm & 85mm. Here they are pictured. They are all pretty darned sweet. I did not compare them at that time to other brands but can tell you these are top shelf glass. I've used the Razor HD 20-60X85 for a full year now & it will wow you! It's no problem to reach out 100yds or 4-5 miles & spot deer & elk where binos couldn't even touch those distances. The smaller 50mm & 65mm are both in the same quality dept. Look through one & you'll see what I mean. Field testing is best but not always possible in the Stores. The prices are excellent with a lifetime unconditional transferable warranty! It's as good as can be! The 16-48X65mm can be bought for 1050.00 with your members discount here. Both the 65mm & 11-33X50mm are light & excellent for those backpack hunts! Here's video clip of the Razor HD 50mm compared to the Nikon ED50 & Minox 50 by a guy that just picked one up from us. It's a good fair clip.

I would be interested but in the video he mentioned it currently is not set up for digiscoping/vidioscoping. I keep coming back to the Vanguard 16-48x65mm.

I know for sure the Razor HD 85mm is set up for digiscoping and I believe the 65mm one is also.

 You can digiscope with any spotter! As long as your camera lens fits inside the eyepiece you will be able to take photos! Personally I would not digiscope with any seriousness with a 50mm, there's just not nearly the light transmission as the 65's & bigger units. The Razor HD 65 & 85 have interchangeable eyepieces so digiscoping with either one is a non issue. The 50mm has a rubber eyecup so it's different than the other two but you can still take photos with it.

I keep coming back to the Vanguard 16-48x65mm.

That's the one I'm currently leaning toward.  Got a good review over on the Rokslide site, and is literally half the price of the Vortex.  The Vanguard Endeavor line of spotting scopes and binoculars have gotten excellent reviews on the bird watching sites.

With spotting scopes, you get what you pay for.  Vortex is best in class by far, you won't touch them for the price.  If you can't afford the Razor HD which I would recommend, go for the Viper HD, I had the 80MM and sold it to upgrade to the Razor, but for the price the Viper HD 65MM is a darn good spotter for under $700.

My recommendation overall on spotters is buy the best you can afford, and if you are spending a ton of time behind them make sure you at least get HD glass.  Eye fatigue sucks!!!

Shane makes a good point in having Spotters with ED/HD glass. The question guys have to ask themselves is how much time do you plan on staying behind it? If you are an occasional user of your Spotter with 30 minutes or less at a time as you scan areas or size up an animal & then most of your glassing is through binos then yes you can get away with the less expensive non ED/HD glass. It's not a fair price comparison to compare any brand of glass that has ED/HD to one as the Vanguard that does not have it. When comparing pricing you need to select models that are comparable in value & features.

  For instance, when comparing the Vanguard 16-48X65 at 499.00 without ED/HD glass you should be comparing it to the DiamondBack 20-60X60 Spotter without ED/HD glass, this is very comparable & fair, both have similar features in their abilities. The difference though is this. The D/Back goes to 60X over 48X -- The D/Back weighs 33.8oz & the Vanguard weighs 47.8oz  that's a big weight difference if weight is an issue. The D'Back retails for 499.00 but can be bought for 369.00 -- The D/Back also comes with an unconditional Transferable Lifetime Warranty with no cards to fill out.
