Gun Buy Back
« on: January 03, 2013, 09:36:20 PM »
I heard on the news the City of Seattle is considering a gun buy back program. The mayor is concerned that his hands are tied on why he cannot pass gun laws, maybe he should take a look at the U.S. Supreme Ct. decision in i]Heller[/i].They (City of Seattle) would like to follow how Los Angeles, CA or LAPD has bought guns back from citizens.

I think its a back door way of disarming citizens their right to bear arms. It sounds good and looks good, but it stinks.

Why not sell it to a licensed dealer or pawn shop?

Just makes me wonder why the govt is so concerned about buying guns back?.

What do others think, good or bad?

whats bad is that people would actually go along with it and sell their guns back to government.

If a law abiding person is willing to give them up that easy then they probably should not have them in the first place.

I think criminals see this as a way to get rid of crap guns for cash to upgrade or get rid of guns that may be tainted by use in a past crime.

At any rate  :twocents: is it is a waste of tax dollars........

You think it would be against some law to use tax payers dollars to support a program such as this. :dunno:

I think a gun buy back would be conquered by firearms enthusiasts offering more money set up next to the cops buying the guns back.  Looking at the prices paid in other buy backs, I'd say there were some deals to be had!

I haven't looked into them that much, but they dont' pass the smell test. Who on earth is going to trade a $500 gun for a $100 grocery card? Answer: a criminal who will take you up on the "No questions asked" part.

I wonder if these sham programs are increasing burglaries to pick up a few firearms to trade in.  :twocents:

I'm disturbed by the term "buy back" .  Like the government owned them in the first place.  Plus, I'm curious how many of these end up back on the market.

A fool and his gun are easily separated... If you dumb enough to sell the city your gun I could really care less. There MAY be a few guns out there that are worth LESS that what you get from the city, but there is no way they will pay enough $ for a quality gun.  :twocents:

If the beloved and ill equiped mayor wanted to remove guns from some of the citizens of Seattle, he could also raise money at the same time. How about taking guns in donation to immediately put up for sale at a new Seattle Donated Gun Show.

Although I consider the city of Seattle a pariah, I would gladly bring cash to Seattle to help disarm her citizens.

Let's all help disarm Seattle residents!

These buy backs are nothing more than political grandstanding by local politicians and desined to feed the media circus. They are designed to give the illusion that somebody is "doing something" to "stop gun violence". The fact that they never reduce any discernible firearm related crime is irrelevant to the whole circus.

Anyone with half as brain could easily see the foolishness of this activity. Wait a minute...maybe that's the real benefit! If someone is stupid enough to trade in a gun for a cheap gift certificate, they probably should not possess a firearm in the first place.

Ok, guess I'm good with it.  :guns:

In a similiar manner I heard this morning some areas are also doing a $25 buy back on violent video games. I'm all for that.....I've got a few lying around that I don't play and would glady wipe the dust off for some quick$$$....however, just getting into Black Ops 2 so they will have to wait for that one.

Buy back.....dumbest idea.

There's worse. The government is using your money to do this. A high percentage of these guns will be disabled or broken/in bad repair and we're paying for garbage. As BC pointed out, this is also a good incentive for people to go steal firearms. These feel-good measures that liberals propose are almost always asinine. How do our citizens fall for this crap, anyway?
