Time to write the WDFW regarding EM 65+ elk permits
« on: January 05, 2013, 11:46:21 AM »
I was looking at proposed permits for EM 65+ elk and noticed there are none for 2013.
Those of you who are affected by this, should write the director and the commission voicing your view.
I suggested that if there are no permits for EM 65+, then we should be allowed to apply for WM 65+.

This is not "new" for 2013. The seasons the original poster posted was for the 2012-14 seasons. Those seasons actually "started" for the 2012 season and were adopted by the WDFW in April 2012.

True, but there is nothing about a 65+ ML permit season for EM, which is why I mention it.
Looks like there is not a lot of interest for a 65+ML permit for EM on this forum.

I think that is part of the problem with this category system they've come-up with.  It is kind of hard to have decent permit choices for all the categories they've added.

There were none in 2012. This change was made last year and affects the 2012, 2013, and 2014 seasons. WDFW sets seasons on a three year cycle. I don't believe there is any chance at all of seeing a change until the proposed 2015-2017 seasons are drafted.

Hoofs, isn't that link you posted just a list of changes?  If I'm reading it right, they aren't proposing any changes to the 65+ EM elk categories.  (I guess that is what you're getting at). The current regs show no Eastern ML permits for 65+.  They have a few for disabled hutners and a bunch for modern F, but no ML.

Does seem like they could have at least 5 permits to for an old ML hunter to apply for.  Looks like their proposing to add 20+ permits to the modern 65+ category (Taneum, Manastash, Cowiche, Umtanum).  Maybe a letter to them pointing out that they have no permits for ML in the 65+ category, and instead of increasing the permits for Modern, they could create some ML permits.  :twocents:

 :yeah:

There is no need for a separate +65 category. Nor is there a reason for a disabled hunter category, or a youth category. All these permits should be included in the antlerless category. So if you write to the WDFW, don't ask for permits to be added to the 65 category. Ask that they elminate all unnecessary categories.

Youth odds are far worse than other categories for elk. It is one more way to get income from application fees, and keep "hope" of drawing higher by applying in multiple categories.

Bobcat, then you would have only one chance.
If you buy two tickets to a lottery, you have two chances.
So if you apply for anterless and 65+ you get two chances.Add disabled and you get 3 chances.
More than once, have I drawn a quality, and an anterless in a single year.
There is nothing keeping you from drawing a permit from all of the different categories in a single year.
