I was talking with my brother today. They're requiring the registration of semi-auto shotguns, along with other semi-auto firearms in the so-called "assault weapon" category. Sound to me like the march to eliminating the 2nd Amendment is in progress. Semi-auto shotguns, really?

There are only a few on the list. I assume they are the models with a "high capacity" magazine.

The standard hunting type autoloader shotguns are not on the list.

I hope you're right. He's under the impression it's any semi-auto shotgun. He also has a mini 14, so he has to register if he's going to keep that anyway. It seems unreal.

If it is semi-auto and has 1 "evil" feature, it must be registered.

Detachable mag is one of those.  Pistol grip is another.  Trying to find actual wording of the law, does anyone have it?

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't all guns registered at time of original purchase? So even if your guns are already registered does that mean you have to reregister them if you move to NY? What happens if you borrow one from a friend?

I believe that background check info upon the purchase of a firearm through an FFL is only to be kept for a limited time and then "destroyed" hence the registration upon purchase is not really one.   Could be wrong on this and I think some states actually require a permanenet registration like CT.

I believe I read that long guns that are purchased the information is kept indefinitely by the store, if the store closes then the the records are handed over to the Feds. Handguns a copy is sent to your local police department but they can only keep the records for a certain amount of time before they are destroyed.

Rcw 9.41.110
(9)(a) A true record in triplicate shall be made of every pistol sold, in a book kept for the purpose, the form of which may be prescribed by the director of licensing and shall be personally signed by the purchaser and by the person effecting the sale, each in the presence of the other, and shall contain the date of sale, the caliber, make, model and manufacturer's number of the weapon, the name, address, occupation, and place of birth of the purchaser and a statement signed by the purchaser that he or she is not ineligible under RCW 9.41.040 to possess a firearm.

     (b) One copy shall within six hours be sent by certified mail to the chief of police of the municipality or the sheriff of the county of which the purchaser is a resident; the duplicate the dealer shall within seven days send to the director of licensing; the triplicate the dealer shall retain for six years.

I hope they stand tough and not register them. doesn't matter what shotguns or any gun for that matter any forced registraition should be unconstitutional and resited peacefully or by force if neccassary.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
