What is your favorite fruit or vegetable to dehydrate? Looking for ideas. Do far I've only done apples and bananas.

Strawberries, pineapple and plums.  Although the plums can become quite tart.  The strawberries and pineapple are like eating candy when dried.  Mushrooms dehydrate very well.  We dry most of the Birch Boletes we get in the fall.  If you dry onions or garlic, I would suggest doing it outside.  They put off quite the odor that seems to penetrate through the entire house.  Haven't tried many other veggies.

Peaches, apples, and apricots are my favorite fruits, cucumber chips for veggies.  I like to sprinkle a little cinnamon or nutmeg on the fruit, salt and pepper on the cucumber...

When you do your pineapple is it fresh or canned? does it make a difference?

Some animals WERE harmed in the making of this Hunter. They were also dragged through the dirt, butchered and tasted delicious fried with butter and bacon.

Make applesauce and then fruit leather. Yum, and great in packs!

I do all kinds of veggies, corn, peas, carrots, broccoli, beans, for all my back country hiking , I do spaghetti sauce on wax paper a gallon of sauce reduces into a small baggie, I cook up a bunch of elk meat in the crock pot and dehydrate it for adding to noodles, its better to dehydrate home made stuff like  chili, than to use caned stuff because home made is better and not as much salt in it, I package up complete  meals in food saver bags, compacts everything nice and stores easily, winters a good time of year to get the meals all done up for later in the year.

Mango, Pineapple, Watermelon, Cantaloupe and Kiwi are all great. I did some Strawberries, but sliced them to thin and they turned out like Corn Flakes.

Those are good for adding to oatmeal.  They'll rehydrate or disenegrate and flavor the oatmeal.

Lots of great ideas. I picked up a dehydrator last year and still playing with it. I have done bananas, strawberries and apples. Looking at trying some blueberries, raspberries and frozen veggies to make my own meals. After reading some of the posts I am going to try some meats and meals.

Did you boil them for 60 seconds then give them an Ice water bath?

No problem. Also make sure it's a rolling boil. You need the skin to crack.

I saw something that said freezing them first also helps. I'm guessing the ice crystals cause breaks in the skin.

I got a flat of blueberries and have a couple trays going...have about the same amount sitting in a bottle with vodka.  :chuckle:

I dry 60 pounds of mixed peppers from the garden along with fresh herbs and make my own spice mix with it.  60 pounds dried will come out to about 4-5 pounds of spice when all ground and mixed.  I also pick and dry fig's, kiwi, apples, pears and mushrooms.
