As the call for more gun control continues, governors, lawmakers, sheriffs, and citizens across the country are taking a stand.

After the tragic Sandy Hook shooting, gun control advocates immediately jumped on the opportunity to dust off old gun control legislation, specifically advocating for a ban on "assault weapons."

Even though the FBI's own crime statistics show that more people are killed by blunt objects like hammers, than so called "assault rifles," the call to ban rifles from 99.9% of law abiding responsible gun owners, due to the action of a few, still remains.

Attorney General Eric Holder, most famous for shipping guns to drug cartels to undermine the second amendment as admitted by documents leaked to CBS News, is now pushing gun control proposals in the wake of President Obama's announcement on 23 Executive actions. Senator Diane Feinstein, well know for her anti-gun stance, has released a list of 157 rifles, handguns and shotguns that will be banned if her legislation passes Congress.

Over 90 Sheriffs have now come forward to say that they will uphold the Constitution and not enforce any new gun bans or measures. In Mississippi, Gov. Phil Bryant urged state lawmakers to immediately pass legislation that would make any unconstitutional order by the President illegal to enforce in Mississippi. A Texas lawmaker has taken it a step further, attempting to introduce legislation that would have federal officials arrested if they attempt to enforce new gun laws in the state. South Carolina, Tennessee and Indiana are drafting similar legislation as well.

Now in Washington State, Representatives have introduced HB 1371, The Washington State Firearms Freedom Act.

"Any federal law, rule, regulation, or order created or effective on or after January 1, 2013, shall be unenforceable within the borders of Washington if the law, rule, regulation, or order attempts to: (a) Ban or restrict ownership of a semiautomatic firearm or any magazine of a firearm; or (b) Require any firearm, magazine, or other firearm accessory to be registered in any manner," the bill reads.

The bill leaves no important 2nd amendment right unchecked. "During the continuance of any state of emergency, neither the governor nor any governmental entity or political subdivision of the state shall impose any restriction on the possession, transfer, sale, transport, storage, display, or use of firearms or ammunition that is otherwise authorized or guaranteed by law," pg 7 reads.

Just 12 days ago I took my oath of office to uphold the US and Washington State Constitutions. Both are clear, the right to bear arms "shall not be impaired" or "infringed". We have already seen action at the Federal level to limit or control firearms contrary to the US Constitution. The Firearms Freedom Act simply upholds our constitutionally guaranteed rights," said Rep. David Taylor, the primary sponsor of the bill.

2nd amendment supporters are encouraged to contact Washington State Representatives and ask them to sponsor and support the bill.

This bill, unlikely to pass, also has a measure that would institute a class c felony for any federal officer enforcing federal firearms laws in violation of this legislation. Minimum penalty of one year in prison for the federal law enforcement officer. To date no federal officer has ever been arrested by a state/local officer for enforcing any federal laws. Should be no surprise this legislation is unlikely to pass, especially in the Democrat controlled House of Representatives.

Not only are so called assault rifles rarely used in homicides, they are an insignificant blip in the homicide rate. In 2011, according to the FBI, there were 12,664 homicides in the US.  only 323 were committed with any kind of rifle, let alone "assault style" rifles.  That is about 2.5% of all homicides are committed with rifles.

And the homicide rate has dropped 15% since Obama has been in office......... Hmmmmmm........ and during that time more guns have been sold in America than any other 4 year period in US history. Isn't that supposed to mean the homicide rate went up? That's what the gun banners will tell you.

Dear Legislator,

As the country’s government creeps upon our Constitutional rights, I applaud Rep. Taylor and other sponsor of HB 1371.  This bill will secure our 2nd Amendment within Washington State borders, even as President Obama and his anti gun friends encroach on the rest of the country.

Please support the Constitution like you swore to do and take the steps needed to secure our American freedom and support HB 1371.

If you don't stand behind the troops, please feel free to stand in front of us.

Sent and a very quik reply

Dear Mitch,

Thanks for contacting my office regarding the important protection of our Washington State Constitution and specifically our second amendment rights.  Be assured, as your State Representative, I will be watchful for and strongly oppose any pieces of legislation that may be introduced that would infringe on any part of your second amendment rights.

Those who would introduce such a bill are not interested in curbing violence, but taking advantage of the violent behavior of deranged individuals in order to disarm law abiding Americans. I will stand with my colleagues in the House to protect our Constitution.

Sincerely,

Liz

Dear Members of the WA Congress,

I am a voter residing in Vancouver, WA. Please support this bill and our sovereignty as a state. Our state must stand up against the federal government and its attempt at a gun grab, in direct opposition to both our state and US Constitutions. Thank you.

Sent to all.

To my elected representatives,

I respectfully ask that you defend our second, ninth, and tenth amendments and support HB 1371.

The sovereign nature of states’ rights, and the rights of citizens guaranteed under the second amendment should not be jeopardized by current federal efforts to further restrict gun ownership.

Thank you.

Please vote YES on HB 1371.

Sincerely,

Greetings Senator Keiser, Representative Orwall, and Representative Upthegrove,

I am a voting constituent living in Renton, and am very worried about the attack happening on the Constitution.  As the country’s government creeps upon our Constitutional rights, I applaud Rep. Taylor and the other sponsors of HB 1371.  This bill will secure our 2nd Amendment within Washington State borders, and our State has always been at the forefront in the battle for civil rights, and this is a very important civil right.  We have a history of blurring party lines to do what's right, to legislate responsibly, logically, and to not take our marching orders from a centrilized special interest.

I strongly feel that passing HB 1371 is in the best interest of Washington State and the Country.

In securing our Second Amendment right at the State level, you are sending a strong signil to Washington D.C. that our rights will not be infringed upon, that our federalist system does work in allowing local jurisdictions to protect against over-reaching Federal laws that would turn the cornerstones of our community into criminals, or turn the law-abiding citizen into a victim of those predisposed to criminal activities.  Neither is acceptable.

Please support the Constitution like you swore to do and take the steps needed to secure our American Freedoms and support HB 1371.

Sincerely,

Your conscientious constituent,

Here's an important reply back, sounds like we need to send more letters to two members of the judiciary committee:

Quote
Dale and Tara,

Representative Condotta is in full support of this bill and IN FACT he is a sponsor of the bill. I would urge you to contact the Chair and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee and request that they hold a public hearing on House Bill 1371. This is the first step in moving this bill forward and we cannot do it without your support! Thanks again for your support.

Sincerely,

Brandt Cappell
Legislative Aide to Cary Condotta
12th District Representative

I think he is referring to Reps Pederson and Hansen?
