I hunt elk with my 45-70 from time to time.  I use it for brushy situation where I know I am not going to get a long shot.  Now I just need to shoot an elk with it.  :chuckle:

I have no concern for whether it is a sufficient cartridge at the ranges I would be hunting.

It's one of the most popular black powder cartridges ever.  Outlived the modern versions like the 444 Marlin, and still going strong!  Deer, Bear, Elk, Buffalo--I wouldn't be afraid to take any of them with it!
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

If you buy / use the right gun it is a 300 yard gun all day long.  Don't buy the guide model if you want extended range capability.
