2010 F-150 Water Leak
« on: March 10, 2013, 02:19:28 PM »
Anybody experience water leaking near the rear window in their 2010 F-150? Looked online and it appears to be from the third break light. Went through carwash thursday and water was leaking all over the drivers side, and driver side rear passenger window area. Then today heard water dripping and the rear passenger seat was wet and the headliner has a water stain  Wonderful few days :bash:

It's no longer covered under the 3 years/36K miles, but is still under the extended service plan.

Good to hear that it is still covered. We have one 2010 F-150 as a parts running truck at work. So far we havent had a problem with any leaks.

Well from what I have read water leaks aren't covered under the extended plans only under the 3/36K, convenient eh?  :bash:

Anybody else experience this? How did the dealer view it?

It happened to me as well.  I was at 32,000 miles when it happened so it was covered under warranty.

Lucky.

From everything I have found online it appears to be the upper/third brake light leaking. Wonder how much it'll cost  :bash:

Fighting the same thing. Bought the extended warranty and it wasn't coverd. So it cost 380 to have the new one put in a re sealed. Said it was a big problem for this year.

That's what I've heard. Did you get a new headliner as well or just fix the light?

I've found F150forum.com to be pretty insightful for this kind of stuff. I know I've seen plenty of threads over there on this very issue.

I think a DIY fix with a tube of Silicone Sealant and some masking tape could be done in less time than it takes to hassle with a dealer.  Loosen the light housing, goop in the silicone and tighten it back up.  The masking tape is to cover the paint around the light area so you don't get silicone all over.  That stuff is worse than roofing cement for migrating all over the place!  :chuckle:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

I have a 2011 and noticed water in it (third brake light) one of the first times I washed it. No interior leaking, but thanks for the reminder I need to take it in (although, from what I've seen, I think Ford repairs have been iffy, some people seemed to have good success with their own little solutions...if I remember correctly).

Have you had other issues with it? I'm still debating whether to get the extended warranty. Sync has been a pain in the rear and I've had one speaker cut out that they took forever to fix, but other than that, no real issues. Considering mine is first year 5.0L, might be a good idea to just get it.

No I just had them use a carpet cleaner thing on it. My back seat was always wet and had big water stains on them to. They all came out.

The new Rams have a big problem with water leaking in the third brake light. I don't know about an f150 but it could be something similar. The official fix for the Rams is to remove the light, apply clear silicone to the back and reinstall.
