First cat
« on: March 22, 2013, 01:34:13 PM »
Finally got a cat! I have been putting out traps in all the places I have seen cats in the last few years and finally coaxed one in the trap. Not the prettiest as far as spots but is definitely quite large.  It weighed just a hair under 30 lbs and seemed pretty long from toe to toe. Kinda pissed I left the camera home this morning so I didn't get any pictures at the trap or with him in the trap. Oh well, still pretty happy.
I also tried a new tactic a few days ago with concealment of this trap. I have a lot of cedar boards so I completely covered the outside of my trap with nothing more than thin wide pieces and set it at the end of an old road all by itself. No bushes or anything next to it to conceal it. Looked like a long wooden box.

A few beaver scraps and some salmon oil. I know visual attractants really help with cats so I put a small yellow rubber ducky in the back of the cage as well. I would imagine ducklings are big part of bobcat diets this time of year so I figured it couldnt hurt to try. Not sure if that was the deciding factor for the cat or not but I am gonna use them from now on.

Nice Tom! Those coast cats look pretty good once you get them dryed off.
