SUV Hunting: Hitch Hauler
« on: April 05, 2013, 03:25:40 PM »
Anybody used one of these Masterbuilt Hitch Hauler's, or something similar?

I will be hunting out of an SUV (Ford Explorer) this year and I will need to be able to haul a deer or elk back home. I dont really want to put it in the back with a tarp in case blood spills out.

My only concern with the hitch hauler is that the exhaust will spoil the meat. (Even if tarped). Thoughts anybody?

I bought one and love it.  I strap a 185 quart and another 54 quart cooler to it.  Allowed us not to haul my utility trailer to Montana 2 seasons ago.

Just stick it in the back!  I had a subaru for a while and that thing hauled an elk and a handful of deer.

I have used one on my Pathfinder and it works great, no issues. Last year we had three bucks on the top rack and two does in the hitch hauler, quite a site.

I've been using a home made version for about 20 years.

personally dont like the idea. i think i would bone it & put it in coolers. i see people haul game exposed & i always think of exhaust & all the polutants on the roads, the guy in front of you burning oil, antifreeze. be it weed killer on the ditches or anything. makes me shiver. if you can get it coolers & sealed ok. just my thought.

I have put a deer on top of my explorer before.  Of course it was only 4 miles fom my house to where I shot it. :chuckle:  those hitch haulers are awesome though. From what I've heard, they work great .
