pretty skittish,  I hope to set up a ground blind and get some better shots.

If you are near the burrow they're using (usually an old badger dig) go over to it and kind of dig around a bit in a month or so-they protect their chicks by making a sound that duplicates a nest of rattle snakes When I was a kid, we used to go dig them and and keep them as pets for a bit then turn them loose.  Just make sure it's the actual burrow they're using and not really a snake nest. :chuckle:  Nice pic's-they are a pretty cool little bird.

Oh this is awesome I love the pics of the dirt dwelling owls they crack me up and its just plain cool to see them around.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE    OMG I want one for a pet...squeeeee the chicks are so darn cute..... I cannot stand it......and yet to think one day soon those cute fuzzy owlets will eat the cute fuzzy bunny in the great circle of food

..sorry I love owls and I am a girl so totally appropriate for me to freak out like one :chuckle: :chuckle:
