How many classifications are there? Big game, small game, varmint, water fowl threatened or protected, livestock.

Is a opossum a varmint or small game. Maybe un classified.
I don't know anyone that hunt for them.
I'm not sure.

The term is not in the regs, but it would be any animal or bird that is not a Game Animal.  If it's not on the "protected species" list, it's shoot them anytime, like Rockcucks.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

But the term is used in the WAC in a few places...here is one;

(a) It is permissible to kill unclassified wildlife, predatory birds, and big game animals that are in the act of damaging commercial crops or livestock, under the following conditions:

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=232-36-051

Heredoggydoggy, you should write to WDFW and see if they can provide any list or detail as to what exactly would be classified as "unclassified"...  :chuckle:

The term must be referring to invasive species like the rock doves, one can shoot without a hunting license, all other critters are identified as either non game animals, and game animals
I call them city pigeons

Eurasian Collared Dove, Starlings, House Sparrows, all invasive species, fair game (so to speak)  :chuckle: I've noticed since I picked off so many House Sparrows, the native birds are coming around more.

thank you all, the reason I asked is cause wdfw said that is all I can hunt for now using my air rifle cause it is currently illegal to hunt any game animal using an air rifle but they said that will change soon.  So I can shoot "unclassified wildlife" as long as I have a valid washington hunting license.

I believe the term is loosely used to describe animals that don't belong or aren't listed on any other list.
I.E. Big game, small game, protected...   and so on.
A great example is the Opossum, moles, rats, Nutria, Eastern Grey Squirrels and so on.
Yes even Big Foot.

If you see ANY eurasian collared Doves, destroy them....
We owe it to ourselves to irraticate these birds. Before they irraticate our Band Tailed Pigeons.

Didn't the Fed's pass a law a several years ago saying it was illegal to kill Big Foot or was that a hoax too?
