Breaks my heart every time I read threads like these. We have two labs and they are young but I don't want to think about the day when they leave us. At least your dog went out peaceful and was able to say goodbye to you and your wife. Sorry for your loss!

I am sorry Tony. It is so hard to lose a friend, especially a good loyal one. My dog is slowing down a lot and so I am sure it is not to much longer for him.

It is good he had that lab smile they get, just means he was happy when he passed on. He had a loving family with you guys  :)

Sorry to hear this Tony. Really sucks losing a family member.
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is who you actually are while your reputation is merely who others think you are.

Super sad. I have been down that road myself. I lost both of my dogs during the month of May 3 years ago. One was old (16 years) and we put him down.  the other was young (3 years) and he died from cancer. I dealt with loosing my young dog and finding him dead much better than putting my old dog down. I would rather them make the choice to go rather than me wonder if there was still anything I could have done before putting them down. I was dreading putting my young dog down and he was fighting pretty hard to get better but one night he just gave up and I buried him by my old duck blind. Loosing your friend is never easy and I cried same as I would have if I lost a family member. Thoughts are with ya sorry to hear this.

Thanks everyone  :'(  I'm at work, and just trying to get through the day  :'(  Ain't it funny how we as hunters can go out and blow the brains out of a deer or elk, and not think anything about it, but loose a dog, and its like getting gut punched for days :'(

I feel for ya, man.  :sry:  I had to put my Ursa la Bear down just over a week ago.  It took me nearly a week before I could bring myself to go through the pictures of her for the Hunting Dog Memorial thread.

Sad!  Sorry man...... How old was he?

Sam Dog was only 7 or 8 years old. When we got him we were his (I think )7th home in his first year. He had some tumers inside his hind legs and on his belly for the last year or so.
