WDFW delays special permit drawing
All special permit categories
OLYMPIA - The drawing date for the 2013 special permit application system will not be run until later this month. The annual drawing will not be run until the last week of May, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced today.
WDFW issued an emergency announcement today that notified thousands of sportsmen and sportswomen across the state of the expected delay. Applicants can expect the drawing to occur on the last week of May, or possibly by mid June.
Wildlife officials closed the drawing when it was determined that the programming application licensing had expired and vendor requirements were not met because of the expired license and agreement, said John E Blate, WDFW regional permit program manager.
This is the first major delay announced by the department in 8 years. Wildlife officials will not refund special permit application fees to outdoor enthusiasts upset by the delay. Applicants are encouraged to visit the WDFW website in June to determine if they have been drawn for any special permits.
"This delay is not really a huge inconvenience for most applicants, and they are reminded to appreciate the permit opportunities offered to sportmen and sportswomen of this state" Blate said.
