Puyallup ?
« on: July 18, 2013, 07:21:26 PM »
So I am just sitting around thinking :bdid:
If the tribe and WDFW don't reach an agreement to open the Puyallup for sport fishing does that mean that the tribe still gets to do their "sustenance" netting and we have to sit and watch or fish somewhere else :dunno:

Of course it does!

The Tribe's season is not in dispute. It is whether or not they want us sports fisherman to get a share.

I don't think it is that simple.  As "co-managers," you would think that there needs to be an agreement.  I think WDFW should call their bluff and say that nobody fishes unless the sports get to fish.  But, WDFW will fold and give in more and more.

I would watch a few bails float by.. That would be entertaining.

As for them opening the river... Most do not think anything will happen until the 29th or 30th.  It is the childish game of who will blink first.

I always wondered if the hay bail action was true or just another urban legend? I would love to see it happen and wonder if it would do what I've heard it will do to the nets? Has it ever been done? Do they leave their nets out all night??

I don't normally fisht the puyallup so I'm not sure when it's supposed to open, the carbon is just below my house so I tend to fish that more. When is the puyallup normally open and what is different this year from years past?? Thanks

I would have to check the regs, but its usually a couple of weeks before the Carbon opens.

Prob a stupid question, is it illegal to throw a bail of hay in the river? And what would be the charge? We have a few Indians on this site, I'm wondering if they have seen it done before? Seems like a bad aZz way to get back at them if it causes damage to their nets, just saying.

We use to do it all the time on the lower Chehalis (Monte Bridge) and the Skok.  When those bales get waterlogged they can do some serious damage to nets!  Works like a charm!
