I  use to hunt the entiat when it went to a general season and it was great. Have seen 10 bucks or more in a square mile or so.I have gotten drawn only once for the permit thou. And of course that was the year we got no snow and it was horrible.Saw a couple of small 3pt little basket heads and a spike I could of shot.My nieghbor had the later tag and didnt see much either. So yea IMO it is very weather dependent. That being said I like the 1st week better than the last week.Better chance of a snow in the 2nd week thou.I will send ya a pm were we hunted....

There’s a big difference between getting “they’re in there, now go get um” help, and getting someone to draw you an “X” on a map.  First of all, would you really want someone to draw you an “X” on a map, even if they could?  And, should someone draw you an “X” on a map, even if they could?

I think the point Grizz was trying to make is in the approach one takes when requesting information (help).  Did they just ask blindly on a message board for anything anyone would be willing to give?  Or, did they do their homework and are asking to verify information they gathered on their own?  I know the information (help) I give, is in direct proportion to the amount of effort the requester either has, or is willing to put in.  I don’t believe you are “helping” anyone by doing it for them.

Here is an actual real life exchange:  Permit holder calls up and asks, “Can you tell me some good spots to look?”  Answer was, “Congrats on your permit draw!  Be sure to focus on north-facing slopes, early mornings and late evenings, and look for areas with fresh sign (tracks and droppings) and good luck”.  Another permit holder calls up and asks, “I’ve read the Harvest and the Herd Status and Trends Reports, and have been studying maps of my permit area.  I thought the Jelly Bean Ridge area looked like a good place to start my scouting efforts, and wanted to get your thoughts on it?”  Answer was, “Congrats on your permit draw!  Actually, the habitat conditions on Jelly Bean Ridge are poor quality right now and I would not recommend focusing effort there.  However, it would not be a bad idea to look just west of there in Candy Cane Canyon, and good luck”.

Both inquiries were the same (wanting to know a good spot), but were entirely different in their approach and effort being put forth.  I think you should put the effort in fellas, and not just go on a message board and ask for handouts.

I agree 100%!!!  I just read a thread in the elk section about someone wanting info and thought (there's no way he's gonna get any solid info...)  I'm sure some of you know the thread Im talking about.  I actually have some info there but it just didn't feel right....

I'm also eager to help as I got a good streak going on the late entiat hunts and helping others out...  went 3 for 3 last year on helping guys out and it would be cool to get back in there this november...

Nobody has to divulge anything they don't want to.  If you're a "giving" person, help someone out; if not, don't respond.  Pretty simple.  Not sure what all the fuss is about.

I am helping a couple people out off-line because I want to help them be successful and plan a safe, fun experience.  I'm not giving up any of my personal spots, just giving them general advise that they can apply to their own legwork.

I saw so much effort by others to get people onto moose, it was very refreshing.  Wouldn't it be nice for a change if people were that willing to help with hunts that aren't so high profile?  What about the average guy looking to get started on the right foot?  Nothing about that has anything to do with giving them places to hunt.  Show them HOW to hunt, what to look for, etc.

I think there is a lot more help going on than you think bow4elk, a lot of it is as you do yourself, sent in PM's. I help out in PM's a lot and give out spots that I personally have had success in all the time, I'm sure there are several on here that can attest to that. Personally I get more enjoyment these days seeing someone else that I help tag out than I do myself, moose being the exception, I really want that big *censored* :chuckle:  :twocents:

Holy Bajeebers Bearhunter, how much did that one weigh in the photobucket shot?

As far as giving info out, I don't mind, especially if I have information about an area that I can't or don't plan to hunt.

i hear what everyone is saying on both sides of the issue. i am all for helping someone out especially for a draw hunt. that's how i found this site last year when i drew the eniat tag. i had a lot of help from finman and a few others. I've also helped/traded some info with fanatic and a few others on this site, which has paid off for both of us. i do however disagree with someones first post being "wheres your honey hole." this post was not that.  the eniat is no secret. i don't think there is a spot in there that 200 people haven't stood  on by the time he gets in there. i will try to help out as much as i can, and i hope he kills a monster in there.  :twocents:
