rook question
« on: August 04, 2013, 04:22:33 PM »
I am new to bow hunting, but when I look through my peep should I be able to see the ring around my sight pins or not? I cannot see the ring and it feels like I can never really center the peep and sights. To look at the level on the sight I have to move my anchor lower which I know isn't right.

Sounds like your peep needs to be moved a little.   You will find lots of help on here but, going to a good pro shop is well worth the time and dollars.

your peep might be too small.  or too high.  or the draw length is too short keeping your eye too far from the peep.  your hand should be pretty much on your jaw.

have somebody who knows what they're doing watch your form (or post a picture) and if that's ok get a larger diameter peep.

I had cabela's set me up, however I simply didn't know about the bright ring being visible through my peep. My anchor is nicely on my jaw, nose on string; I think the peep may be too small.

My peep allows me to see my ring & level perfectly on the outer edges of my peeps circle of view.  Since my ring fits perfect it really helps me square up for my shot. I don't know if you are suppose to or if bad advice but I actually took a drill bit and BARELY enlarged mine. Sight picture was way better, to small and you don't have a reference.  Probably best to replace it with a bigger one, why not draw & look before they tie it up ?  There is actually a few styles of peeps to chose from and you may like one best.  Mike

You need a bigger peep. Centering your pin guard inside of your peep will give much better accuracy than trying to center just a pin. Centering a single pin means moving your anchor point for each shot at different distances - not good.
Also, move your peep so you have a full view when you're solid in your anchor point. As you draw your  bow and hit your anchor, your peep should be there, period.
There is way too much to teach and learn about archery to compact it into your first lesson at a bow purchase. Don't blame anyone, just learn all you can and move on. Change your gear as you need to and when you can afford it.
