Advice Hunting JBML 666 Deschutes

Taking my son out for the first time in Washington for both of us this year. I was thinking of going off i90 but I think I am heading to JBLM instead.  I believe it is part of 666 Deschutes GMO.

Anyone have any advice or have hunted JBLM before?  This is for deer but outdoor req told me they have other hunting as well.

go to the town Little Rock, hit the power lines. It is mostly walk in only.  The area holds a lot of deer.

To hunt on JBLM you need to get registered out at the Northwest Adventure Center. Give them a call and they will be able to tell you what needs to be done as far as registering your firearms on post (if your gun hunting),as well as the call in and out requirements.

JBLM and everywhere around that area (yelm, Rainier) is packed with monster bucks. I know this because I've seen multiple. Goodluck!

My advice would be to find somewhere closer to home rather than hunt the Deschutes unit.

Yeah, unless I had exclusive access to a prime piece of private property, I see very little to get excited about there. I'd have to put in some serious time to be successful, and I live down the road.

thanks hunterman, I did call mwr and got setup with everything i need, the registration, truck, all that stuff.  Online is the closure reports as well and I will by a map when I am down there next.

Bullkllr and Mike, so have you hunted inside JBLM? And thinking it is a waste of time or just much better off i90 snoqualmie pass?

Go to the Training areas east of hwy 507.

There are plenty of deer but it can also be pretty crowded.

thank you 12 and also WSU.  I have heard that also about i90 corridor, that is why I was thinking JBLM, maybe less folks since you have to be military to get on.

I have hunted JBLM and that is probably the best place left in the unit that is large and huntable.  There are some big bucks, bears, cats, coyotes, ducks, pheasant, some elk as well.  basically everything and they have started doing a better job of logging and helping the habitat.  It used to be an unmanaged jungle.  Timber company land is usually better hunting in my experience but since you have gone through all the steps to hunt out there it definitely isn't a waste of time.

Yeah, not a waste of time. But not necessarily a great option either. 666 outside of JBLM is almost all private. The JBLM part of 666 is not my preference terrain-wise or vegetation-wise. Most of JBLM is 652; 666 has more liberal seasons for most weapons if I remember. Logistics of hunting JBLM makes scouting/accessing the area you want a bit of an issue at times. Certainly animals there. But add everything up and it's just not the easiest place to hunt. If it were- being so close to urban areas- everyone and their dog would want to hunt there- and that is not really the case.
