East side elk
« on: September 08, 2013, 09:58:50 AM »
I just spent my second season hunting the elk side for elk after growing up hunting the west side. I switched to be closer to home. I'll never make that mistake again. Hunting on the east side is like hunting at Walmart on Black Friday. Yes there are plenty of elk, but I can't stand see people everywhere I look. If you take a drive up into the Manashtashe Unit this weekend you can't tell me that hunting. I drove for an hour and couldn't find somewhere to camp, EVERY spot was taken. That's not was hunting is about. And I can't believe there isn't more outrage from more hunters. Even if it means only getting to hunt every other or every three years I'd much prefer that to the CF I just went through.

It's crowded every where, try hunting the Nile which is way smaller with roads every where compared to manastash. The WDFW needs to open up some other units to spread people out!

This year is more crowded because of the roads closed due to the fire.  Yes there lots of bow hunters in that area and next week should be better do not give up so easy.  :dunno:

I feel your pain.  I'm trying to build up more experience to be able to head out to the back country, because the most frustrating part of my last couple seasons has been other hunters!

Come back to the Wet side.....

although speaking of management how hard would it be to do special permits opened up state wide then second tag for essentially general season so you can limit pressure and take in gmu's.  then offer leftover for over counter.
In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when preserved by sportsman. FDR

Some go to church and dream of hunting others go to the woods and think of God
