Story Time
« on: September 11, 2013, 09:52:19 AM »
Decided to set up about 10 yards off a horse trail and about 300 yards off the intersection of 2 main roads where my buddy (grunt11B) has seen deer cross before, found a nice tree to climb over looking a thick area with a small clearing to my front and and a large clearing to my right side and back. Climbed up about 20' and started to gear up and dropped my glove to the ground  :bash:, then an hour or two went by with no sightings and no sound of anything so decided to check my phone to see if my buddy has got one yet and my phone dies  :bash:, so I sit around for awhile and its starting to get dark so I reach into my bag to get my headlamp ready and low and behold no headlamp  :bash:. So I begin thinking this day cant get any worse, no deer, no glove, no phone, no headlamp, I decide to give it about 15 more minutes due to it getting dark in the timber and right away I hear 3 loud cracks then some brush moving, I look to my left and here he comes at about 45-50 yards, I swing around to my right and he stops broadside to me, I could tell he had a solid body on him and some antlers but couldn't make out the size of them due to the lighting, so I put my 50 yard pin on him and let it fly, it was followed by the sound of flesh ripping, I know I hit him but was to confident in the shot placement. He turned and walked about 10-15 feet and collapsed, I waited what seemed like an eternity then heard him kick again and figured it would be safe to get down and maneuver to my link up point with grunt11B and let the deer expire completely. He finally pulled up and the search began, it was a short search 15 steps from the spot he was hit, and about 10 feet from the road. Spent the rest of the night capeing and quartering him. Now to find a taxidermist  :IBCOOL:
