Cougar instead of Blacktail
« on: September 23, 2013, 01:14:35 PM »
I managed to get my first ever big game animal down yesterday.  Not exactly what I had in mind, but it’ll work.  I watched him hunt along a deer trail 30 feet down the hill from me (on my upwind side).  I saw him creep out of view behind some brush and I waited for him to come back in to view, but he didn't come out on the other side.  I used binoculars to look through the brush and saw him standing tall looking straight back at me.  I stood up and drew.  He still didn’t leave - gave me a good target so I shot him broadside.  Spun straight up in the air like a top and then crashed down the hill - he didn't even get 75 yards.

Good stuff! Nice Job ! Looks like a youngish cat, but I guarantee you it wasn't staking mice! Protecting fawns, nothin'! It'd take your big buck down just as easy... Every cat down saves about 40 deer per year. Nice trophy and excellent eating too!

I haven't decided whether to make a rug or just tan it, considering its size
kids thought it was pretty cool and are already staking claim on the pelt, skull and stuff.

Wow! That is awesome! I think this is my 18th year of archery hunting and have yet to get the opportunity to fling an arrow at one. ( Ive seen them several times but getting them to present a shot is whole other story.) My first year of archery I never even saw a legal animal to shoot at!
Congrats! Now go shoot a 180 inch buck since you set the bar so high for yourself.  :chuckle:
