Close but not close enough.
« on: September 29, 2013, 07:01:44 PM »
Had more than just these two guys come in while we were in Oregon but just was never able to connect. Had the top pic of the bull at 40 yards and when I drew my arrow popped off my string  :bash: ,  The bottom one came into just under 90 yards then bumped over onto private land  :bash: . Had my arrow deflect off a branch have way to its target once too lol.. Go figure, but all in all I had a great time with good friends and ended up with some good footage. My new Phelps Game Calls worked very well and I cant wait to go back and put them to use next year with all I learned from this year.

I have had my arrow pop off my string at full draw a few times over the years. Happened to me this year as well.  :bash:
Always next year.

nice pics ! thanks! as to the subject of what we have learned to apply to next year.I had three very close encounters this bow season, and I was wondering should we break down the distance , maybe change position after calling and have Mr. majestic on approach, I  had animals coming in 3 times, I'm sure I was winded all three times even after a lake wash and tree drying of my cameos, but they allways seem to keep as much foliage between them and the call location.I was wondering on opinions on staying hunkered down on approach or quickly change positions like maybe move closer or flank one side , (SORRY GUYS BUT IT JUST WONT GO AWAY ! HOW BIG HE WAS!) WHAT THE HE DUOBLE HOCKEY STICKS WENT WRONG !( 3 TIMES !) :bash: :bash: :bash:
loction location location ! perzackly !

Depending on if I have a caller with me or not depends on what I do,,, BUT with that said I have stayed put when I wish I would have moved, and moved when I should have stayed put lol... I like to be aggressive, I get the bull to talk & I cut the distance as fast as I can. That worked about every time on this trip I just kept having hang ups at the end where it really counts. On one Bull I called him in several times but he did just what you said happened to you,  he would keep to much brush in between us to get a shot, just enough for him to see, then he started to push his cows away, I followed his fast & actually RAN to cut the distance (making life hard on my camera man to keep up & keep filming lol) but I got into his comfort zone & brought him back 3 more times with still no damn shot, the last time I called him back I wanted to get closer "then" call but keep moving forward another 20 yards so when he came back the last sound I made was further back then where I stopped,,,,,..... Worked great,,, well,,,, sort of lol,,, I guess I was closer then I though because I called & ran forward 10 steps just to meet him face to face at less then 30 yards......  :bash:  Awesome experience for sure and again I cant wait to get back, better then sitting at home that's for sure.
