Quite the Trip!!
« on: October 07, 2013, 09:21:38 AM »
Set out last sunday, 9-29 at 1:30 am to go to Sekui for our one last trip of the season. It was raining, calling for swells 10+ feet, but we wanted to see for ourselves. So we finally get there about 630, check in, launch the boat. Out we go towards Pillar point area, wind blowing, maybe 3 ft swells, nothing to write home about. Lines in the water at 8ish, ten minutes later, Release!! BAM! 2 Rods release and the fight is on. This year my cousin came out from Kansas to fish in the salt, and for salmon for the first time in his life. Until now the largest fish he caught was an 8 lb bullhead. We quickly netted one of the fish, but his was NOT cooperating at all. He was hootin and hollerin, lovin life. Get chills just thinkin about it. Anyway, lands his first fish, and first salmon ever get some pics, and back down go the rods. For the next 3 hours it was fish on, on average every 15 min or so. Probable about 130 ish, the wind picked up a little, we had 7 fish, the last one of the limit is always the most difficult. We decided that we needed to head back to land before things got out of hand. Needless to say, its a good thing we did. 6+ft wind waves on top of the swells were kicking our behind royally!! From 2 miles west of Pillar point to the marina took us 3 hrs to travel.  :yike:  :yike:

Day 2: Get up after a very long day of drivin and fishin. Get out on the water at about 715 lines are down. Slow for the first hr, then it was on again!! Absolutely insane, because of barbless hooks we faught and lost quit a few nice fish. The biggest ones in fact are the only ones that got away!  :chuckle: 2 hrs later we are headed for the dock with our limit of 8 fish!! Fileted, sealed up the fish and went back to the room for the entertainment of the day at Olsens. If youve been there you know!  :chuckle:

Day 3: On the water, nice morning, weather cooperating so far. "If it stays this way we will go bottom fishing today up in area 4", the boat owner chimed in. Sweet!! I love bottom fishing. Out we go! Little slower on the bite today and the fish were a little smaller than yesterday. Average of 6 lbs ish. Limited and back to the dock to clean and seal the fish by noon. Weather still holding out, we freshened up, got some coffee, and back out we go! Down the shore to area 4 we go to a spot we like. The rain was picking up at this point, but hey, it wasnt windy! Get to our spot and fish for the next 3 hrs in downpouring rain with no fish to show. Oh well! Great day

Day 4: Get up early after a night of some beers, hot mama sausages, and whatever was left in the coolers for dinner.  :bdid: Get everything loaded in the truck, so that when we are done we can head home. Out on the water at 700, and we let Gary, my cousin, catch a few more fish, before finally getting our last fish of the limit at 900. HOT bite that day. Back to the dock, cleaned up and out on the road at 1130. All in all and outstanding trip, wonderful memories to share, and some great fishing! I cant wait for next year!
