Saving fowl wings for training

PLanning on getting a lab next year and was thinking I should save some wings this season for training. Never saved them before so do I need to dry them in salt or something??? Is there a good way to do this so I don't have to keep them in the freezer???

Salt or borax will help preserve them.But you would have to get the majority of the meat out anyway. I'm not sure I'd want my pup getting salt or borax in his mouth. Just put them in the freezer.

good points! I'll just freeze a few and pull some long feathers on a few more.

I've had some just dry out without chemicals or problems.  If you put them in the fridge, not in a bag, the meat will dehydrate without rotting but could take quite some time.  I would think just hanging them on a string, away from flies and in a cool area would work fine.

Wish I read this on friday I just tossed all my duck and goose wings.  I froze mine and would toss them like a frizbee and only used a wing for a few minutes each.  Basically they never thawed.

I cut my pheasant wings off and store them in gallon freezer bags in the freezer. The ones that I pull out of the freezer still have all the smell the dogs want.

Thats how I do it. And when they get icky just toss them. My pheasant hunting buddie provided my pup with a lot of wings.

freeze them, but make sure you remove the upper part of the wing - the bicep area for lack of a better term- there is a lot of meat in there that can entice a pup to think its a snack.
