Methow Mulie down!
«

Just got back home from a great 11 day trip to the beautiful Methow valley with my dad. Lots of deer were seen every day of our hunt. Had a few missed oppurtunities during the week with some average legal bucks, which led us to believe we may be going home empty handed. Success rate seemed high in the valley this year since over 50% of the camps around had at least 1 hangin. Late in the week we decided to focus on an area that I have not hunted in about 8 years or so. Deer sign was good and plenty of feed was around. Jumped a decent buck at around 5000' thursday morning, but he presented no shot oppurtunity. Fast forward to Saturday morning... Hiked in just under 4 Mi before daylight with a plan to be at the top of the mountain by 7:30 to catch any bucks that may be headed up to bed down. As I began to make my climb (right at shooting light) I kicked this guy up at about 15 yards in a burn just under 5000' elev. I was in disbelief as I saw this guy trying to bound away from me. There was a doe running with it and I saw one stop with its head hidden behind a tree so I could not tell if it was the buck or not. He messed up by bobbing his head long enough for me to see his rack and had his vitals presented for a shot. Took a shot and he took off down the hillside with rocks tumbling and brush crashing. I thought I had missed him the way he ran off that hillside down towards the heavy brush. Went up to where he was standing and could not find any blood at all...Started to move down the steep hillside towards the heavy brush and found him piled up on a log not more the 30 yards from where he was standing. Had dad bring the game cart 4 mi up from the truck and had him back hangin in camp by 1:00. Great end to a long week of beating the brush and putting many miles under our feet!
