Don't know of a book,,,,,,, one of the best thing to learn is sign cutting

you can make a food print in you back yard in different type of surfaces and monitor then, pay attention to how the sharpness dissipates

Do the same in the grass a pay attention to the bruising.

Peel a stick and compare the color over time

Best place to age water sign is at the water line,,,,,,,....... ha!
