Rats
« on: November 02, 2013, 05:05:34 PM »
I set six colony traps last night at a few culverts I trapped last year, and I had seven rats this morning. One was a double and a rat in every trap. To bad it's not always like that. So I set a few more today. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Bowhunters45... I've already skinned them. My youngest son usually helps me skin but he is away at collage in Spokane now. So I lost my trapping buddy. :'( He is a rat skinning fool. I'm sure going to miss him even more now. 3nails... I couldn't hold out. It's like Christmas morning to me.

It feels good to be back in the skinning shed again. Last year I trapped about thirty beavers, but this year I'm not going to trap any. Way to much work and very little pay. Rats and Cats that's it.

Today's rat catch of twelve. I had three triples in three colony's. Hey 70sdiver...I love trapping them too, but it takes to long by the time you catch them skin them flesh them and stretch them it's two or three hours each. Last year I averaged thirty four dollars each at NAFA.  Some of them where extra large blankets. That's just me though. Good luck trapping. Hey pnwmtnmn... if they skinned like rats I would go for at least one hundred this year. When I was a kid we could take them in whole to the fur buyer and he would take some off the price for skinning. I wish they still did that.

George is at Pateros, he travels to the tricities. If you have the freezer space freeze them whole until George comes thru. No skinning, just freeze and sell.

Only six rats today. Most of the colony's were filled with leaves from the wind.

This is all new to me. I had not idea that you trapped rats. You can sell the coats just like beaver or whatever else? Are they a rat like a barn rat type? Or is this something different?

hntrspud... They are called muskrats. The live in the water like beavers and make dens in the bank. They are in almost every state "if not all".

I trapped Muskrats when I was a kid back in Mass.  Skinning them is easy--as long as you don't nick the blood pocket under their armpits!
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

I averaged $18,00 for all my rats last season. I had a great bunch of rats and most were XL.
