What's your COHO set up?
« on: November 05, 2013, 05:32:47 PM »
I have a Lamigrass 10'6" with a 15lb test line, and a spinning reel that CapSilver gave me. I've used this set up to get a bunch of pinks, but wanting to see if I should switch anything up for the COHO.

What's everyone else using?

Edit: I should say I'm fishing from the banks, sadly don't have a boat.

My favorite is at the bottom of the Straits....  or better yet - Hopefully - still being dragged around by some worthless Seal that ate the slower fish of the school that was pulling a Lamiglas around...

But rig wise, I always have my go to - Coho Killers in Cookies and Cream or Cop Car and maybe - I do mean maybe - Army Truck Green if I get the urge......  40-45" behind a green/yellow/UV Q-Cove flasher....

10# mainline w/ 1/2oz cannonball on a 8" sliding dropper trailing a 4 to 5' 8# leader with a dick nite in what ever color feels right...usually a 50/50. I like to fish this rig on my 10' 4 to 10# rated baitcasting rod. Almost any rod will do though....

Id like to see a pic of that setup!

I run a Loomis GL3 1021 with a Calcutta if there are Kings in the mix. Other wise for throwing spinners and such a 1143 Loomis with a Curado.

Wrap the prawn/sandys around the hook with sticky string, lots of guides now doing this

Smaller rivers ill run my custom 9' IMX with a Calais and 8lb P-line.  Orange #4 blue fox in a back eddy.  Bigger rivers I break out the 9'8" steelhead series and curado with 10lb P-line, same spinner or plugs if I'm on the boat.

My set-up is what ever the fish want that day. I don't let my favorite set-up get in the way of catching fish. Try it all until you figure out what THE FISH WANT not what you want to fish.

That said watching a float sink never gets old.

Spoons!  I use a variety of methods but if you have some lock jawed over pressured coho in a hole someday try a 50/50 or gold spoon and jig or swing it through them.  My favorite method.  Otherwise roll or float some hot eggs.

Lami or Rainshadow 1143 with a 200/201 Curado should be about right with 12# Izorline.
