That's called a "skok fly"... Treble hook wrapped in pencil lead... That kid looks like he's part of the tribe, as that's there usual and accustomed ways of fishing the skokomish...

That's no different then the non-tribal people who snag.  That river is a joke and so are snaggers/flossers everywhere.

The snagging is legal per the tribes regs. So, can't really argue the point. However, I would suggest that his treatment of the fish is not the image the tribe would like out there. No different that any other fisherman or hunter making their demographic look bad. He obviously doesn't have any respect for the fish and the care of them.

This goes on there all the time. :bash: :bash: The local wardens are very aware of this behavior and have cited that family on multiple times. They fight the tickets and win. The only way to get this stopped is to get the video to one of are local TV stations. I was wondering how so many fish ended up in the ditch. I always figured it was yotes and raccoons. This just pisses me off now knowing how they got over there.

Disappointing to see for sure.  I quit fishing down there 8 years ago, I remember the tribe coming through cleaning out their nets during chum season, throwing the bucks on the shore, cutting the hens open for the eggs, throwing them on the bank and then leaving the whole pile there to rot.  There was a pile 6 feet in diameter 2 feet high and 60 yards down river at the next net there was an identical pile.  What a waste.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

The kid is just doing what he was taught.  I'd throw in the grandpa and other adults who taught him and kept getting him the net.

The one time i fished hoodsport we saw the same thing.  Instead of a ditch full of stripped out salmon, we had the bottom of the bay covered in a thick layer of egg stripped carcasses.

You can see he checks each for eggs before tossing them.  You'd think if he had half a brain, he'd be able to spot the bucks from the hens right away and at least toss back the bucks before applying the wood shampoo.

The thing that frustrates me is that chum and humpies are the easiest of the salmon to catch on a rod and real without having to resort to flossing \ snagging techniques.  But that takes skill and work and patience and respect - OK, now I see why they don't bother...

At least they were only chums.  I can't believe that with all those other fishermen that nobody was giving him crap.

:yeah: Have we confirmed that the fish in the ditch are wasted?... I know that's the obvious conclusion.

They only use chums for the eggs. They have basically no other value, although catfood would be better than leaving them to rot in a ditch

Ive seen the skoks treat silvers and kings the same way many times. Disgusting ethics in that group, their ancestors are probably rolling in their graves.
